DESE Opens “Stakeholder Survey” on Race to the Top Issues and Ideas

State education officials have launched a survey that will enable Missourians to offer suggestions and rate a wide range of ideas that could become part of the state’s application for federal “Race to the Top” funding.

The online survey is posted on the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Web site. Educators and the general public may respond to the survey until Monday, Dec. 21.

“This survey is a first-of-its-kind for the Department of Education, and it is critical to our planning for the Race to the Top proposal,” said Missouri Commissioner of Education Dr. Chris L. Nicastro.

“We need to hear from everybody: teachers, parents, students, lawmakers, business people, school board members – everybody who is concerned about achieving significant progress in Missouri’s public school system. The federal government requires states to demonstrate that they have included a broad spectrum of stakeholders in their planning, and this survey is a key part of that effort,” Nicastro said.
