Because You are not like ANYONE else

If you haven't seen SATC 2 maybe you would like to live now and come back later. If you did watch it then you must remember he huge rock Big puts on Carrie's finger at the end. It's her punishment, oh hello! The ring in question is a collaboration between Itay Malkin, Patricia Field with SJP's input.
Itay Malkin is known for using black diamonds and I'm assuming he made his name thanks to this, because black diamonds are not like anything else ;) jaw dropping?

Shreveport Farmer's Market returns June 5; will be open 7 to noon on Saturdays and 3 to 6 pm on Tuesdays

"Remember to wear your walkin' shoes and bring small bills," says Noma Folwer-Sandlin of the Sat, June 5 opening of the Shreveport Farmer's Market.

She adds, "The market has grown from 65 booths to 105! Not just produce; also amazing baked goods, jams and jellies, beef, crafts, and all other great home made, market or farm fresh foods. Plus signs letting you know where it was grown and what percentage was grown by the person selling it. Plus all sorts of foods including meat, cheese and wine."

"We will have our baked goods," says vendor Eric Drabwell, "including ANZAC (Aussie Oatmeal Coconut), Choc Chip, Choc Chip Extreme, Caramel Surprise, Ginger Snap with Cayenne and more, but we will also this year be continuing to sell our Smoked Salmon. Its very good! We sell it vacuum sealed by the piece.

Also my wife, Amy, turns it into Smoked Salmon Dip and that is yummy.
Be early for the Smoked Salmon products too as it tends to "walk out the door!"

101 Crockett Street - Under the Pavilion in Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport - take the Market St exit from I-20 if you're driving from Texas.

Tues: 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Sat: 7:00 am - 12:00 pm

318-455-5788

"And, adds Kathryn Usher, "while you are enjoying the bounty of the Farmers' Market don't forget the art market at the Barnwell Center. Noma's right about those walking shoes since the Barnwell sits on the river. But you can always cool off in the fountain play area. Better yet, park by Sci-Port and park in the middle of both events."

And we happily add an invitation to a new downtown festival, Saturday in the Square. The all-ages fest opens at 3 pm under the Texas St bridge, an area once known as Shreve Square and recently as the Red River District.

3 pm Tracy Chappell & Friends
4 to 5:30 pm DJ Quickie Mart (aka Martin Arceneaux)
6 to 8 pm New Orleans quintet Dumpstaphunk

Where am I today? at "In Honor of Design"

Anna from In Honor of Design is one of the reasons why the blogosphere is such a wonderful place. I am very honored to be her blogger of the week. I had the pleasure to answer some very interesting questions so if you would like to learn more, head over and say hi. You can check it out here.  :) Thank you Anna!!

Toy Matinee

A week ago, I was asked by a fellow blogger, Curtis Linder , to offer a guest review on an album. I was more than happy to oblige, and awfully humbled. So, here is my "guest review", posted by... well, ME!

"I found this GEM (and I do mean GEM!) Back in '91 on cassette. I'm from the Quad Cities of Iowa/Illinois, and was a frequent shopper at Co-op Records. The guys all knew me and knew I KNEW my music. I was looking for something different, something interesting, something not mainstream, that I could sink my teeth into AND be able to call my own (always loved finding great music and then turning others onto it, like a music guru). The Co-op dudes knew I was a Beatles collector and fan as well as a follower of Steely Dan. I had respect for Madonna's pop sensibilities, but much preferred intelligent lyrics and word play within an easily digestible, but intricate movements in a song. They showed me a cassette of Toy Matinee.

Toy Matinee was a short-lived American art-pop band, and also the title of their only album. Their sound was an array of mixed influences, including progressive rock, AOR and pop reminiscent of both the Beatles and the Beach Boys. I was ADDICTED the very first time I heard the very first chords on LAST PLANE OUT - the very first song on the album! I knew, immediately, that this should have been a much bigger record than it had been. Lots of pop hooks that, in no time at all, you'd be singing along with, not to mention bopping your head. This was classy, intelligent power pop from mostly unknown masters!

TOY MATINEE was formed by producer/composer/keyboardist Patrick Leonard in collaboration with singer/lyricist Kevin Gilbert. Backed by a group of session musicians (drummer Brian MacLeod, guitarist Tim Pierce, and bassist Guy Pratt), and with guest appearances from several other musicians including Julian Lennon, the duo recorded just one self-titled album which was released on Reprise Records in 1990.

The album was engineered and produced by Bill Bottrell. Thematically, it covered a rather broad ground; two tracks were dedicated to Czech poet and political figure Vaclav Havel and painter Salvador Dali, and "Queen of Misery" is about Madonna (Leonard was the singer's longtime songwriting and producing partner and Gilbert had recently worked with her as an engineer.) Two of the other songs on TOY MATINEE -- "The Ballad of Jenny Ledge" and "Last Plane Out" -- received wide play on album rock stations, both of them peaking at #23 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Despite that, the album's highest U.S. chart position was #129.

Kevin Gilbert was known well in the L.A. pop scene and around the Sunset Strip. He'd been in various bands, all of his own creation, NRG (No Reasons Given) and Giraffe. At this time he was also dating an unknown singer by the name of Sheryl Crow, who also sang back up and played some keyboards while TM was performing live. (Incidentally, most of Crow's TUESDAY NIGHT MUSIC CLUB album was written by Kevin, during a songwriter's workshop Kevin created with Bill Bottrell and David Baerwald called, The Tuesday Night Music Club.)

Pat Leonard was, well..... PAT LEONARD! (See above credits). These two crafted a masterpiece of power pop that was not schlock, but well thought out. Hooks that were poppy but not annoying or cheesy! You were proud to repeat these lyrics as many time as it took to get others around you to say, "What is that? Who is it? Where can I get it?" (I did this many times, and wore out, at least 3, store bought cassettes of Toy Matinee, before I finally bought a CD player!)

My favorite track is....um...... damn. This is too hard! It's like asking a mother which one of her 9 children did she love most.... If I was asked what track stands out the most. I'd say.............. CRAP! Can't do that either! Every piece of this pie must be savored on it's own or as a whole. This may be the ONLY CD, that I've never "parted out" onto mix-discs of favorites that I make for car rides, because it's a favorite, thru and thru!! All in all, I doubt anyone that reads this review, would find anything they don't like about this album. Unfortunately, you WILL find it in a bargain bin in used CD and record stores. The original was on Reprise but Pat Leonard reissued it in 2001 on his own Unitone records with extra tracks! I'd advise, also, To check out Kevin Gilbert's solo efforts THUD and THE SHAMING OF THE TRUE. You WON'T be disappointed!"

Considering the Patience of God on This 'We Don't Get It' Sunday

[This was shared during worship with the people of Saint Matthew Lutheran Church in Logan, Ohio, earlier today.]

John 16:12-15
Evangelist Billy Graham tells the story of a teacher who asked his class of fifth graders if they could explain electricity. One student raised his hand. “How would you explain it, Jimmy?” the teacher asked. The kid scratched his head and then answered, “Last night I knew it, but this morning, I’ve forgotten.” The teacher shook his head sadly. He told the class, “What a tragedy. The only person in the world ever to fully understand electricity and now he’s forgotten!”

Today is Holy Trinity Sunday on the Church calendar. Someone has pointed out that this is the only day in the whole Church Year devoted to a theological doctrine. The Trinity is a lot harder to understand than electricity. Anyone who claims to have it all figured out—this truth about the universe having been created, redeemed, and sustained by One God Who is three Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—isn’t being honest, especially with themselves.

And it makes sense that we shouldn’t understand everything about God. If we did, we ourselves would be God.

But the word “Trinity” isn’t to be found in the Bible. If that's the case, then why do we Christians make such a fuss over it?

A Princeton professor of religion talked about this once. “There are probably a number of people who imagine that the idea of the Trinity was thought up by ivory-tower theologians who, typically, were making things more complicated than they needed to be and were obscuring the simple faith of regular believers,” the professor said. “In fact, it seems that the process worked pretty much the other way around. Practicing believers and worshipers were driven by their experiences of God's activity to the awareness that God related in several different ways to the creation. ... Thus what these believers came to insist upon was that God had to be recognized as being in different forms of relationship with the creation, in ways at least like different persons, and that all these ways were divine, that is, were of God. Yet there could not be three gods. God, to be the biblical God and the only God of all, had to be one God. This complex and profound faith was then handed over for the theologians to try and make more intelligible. They have been trying ever since.”

The fact is that we could just as easily call Holy Trinity Sunday, We Don’t Get It Sunday. That’s because the doctrine of the Trinity describes a truth that Christians have experienced over the centuries, yet still don’t understand.

But it isn’t the idea of a single being having different roles that’s so mysterious or unfamiliar to us. I am, among other things, a son, a husband, a father, and a pastor, for example. We all have different roles and may relate to each other in multiple ways.

But what we see in the Triune God—three Persons, one God--is something altogether different from that. Thumb through the pages of the Gospels in the New Testament, for example, and you’ll find God the Father affirming Jesus as His beloved Son, the exact image of Himself. You’ll find the Son speaking to the Father, even crying out to Him from the cross, asking why the Father has abandoned Him to bear our sins, sins He never committed. And yet, Jesus said, “The Father and I are One.” And, “Whoever has seen Me has seen the Father.” “I am in the Father and the Father is in Me.” In the Father, we see God fully. In Jesus, we see God fully. Yet they are different persons.

So, where does the third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, come in? Jesus talks about Him, the Holy Spirit, in our Gospel lesson for today. It’s just four verses that are part of what’s called Jesus’ farewell discourse. Jesus knows that He’s going to the cross. After that, He’ll rise from the dead and after a period spent with His disciples, He’ll ascend back to the Father. In Old Testament times, God the Father had led His people through the Law and the Prophets. When Jesus was on earth, God related to people in the flesh. But what was to happen to them once Jesus had ascended to heaven? Who would lead people in the truth of this God of grace Who offers everlasting life to all who turn from sin and trust in Christ? Who would relate to believers to help the mature and grow up in their relationship with God? Who would assure believers of the certainty of their hope in Christ when the chips were down, when life got tough, when they faced persecution, disease, death, conflict, temptation?

These issues were on Jesus’ mind when He told the disciples in today’s lesson, “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.”

One of my favorite movies is Back to the Future, the story of how Marty McFly went in a DeLorean equipped with a flux capacitor, back to his parents’ high school days. In one scene, Marty, played by Michael J. Fox, is invited to sing and play his guitar with a band at the high school dance. Marty starts performing Johnny B. Goode, the Chuck Berry classic, in a style that some people in the 50s, the era Marty is visiting, might have found a little daring, but most would have still thought harmless...at least as he began playing it. But as the song goes on, Marty, this power guitarist from the 80s, can’t help himself. He saunters around the stage like Eddie Van Halen. At first everybody seems to love it. But then he kicks over an amp. He slides across the stage on his knees. Finally, the guitar screeching a single high-note, he notices that the band has stopped playing and that the crowd is just staring at him. Marty stands up, hands the guitar over to the mystified band leader, and tells the crowd, “I guess you’re not ready for that yet…But your kids are gonna love it."

There were certain facts of life with Him, Jesus knew, for which His first followers weren’t yet ready. Until He had gone through the cross, they (and we) couldn’t understand that the call to follow Him means dying to ourselves and to our sins. Until He had risen from the dead, they couldn’t understand that His kingdom wasn’t about giving us the momentary advantages or pleasures of this world, but about the blessings of eternity with God. Nor could they understand how God might call them and their spiritual descendants, like you and me, to change and grow. All of these were truths that Jesus wouldn’t teach them (or us) face-to-face, truths for which God had to make them (and us) ready. “When the Spirit of truth comes,” Jesus says in our Gospel lesson from John, “He will guide you into all the truth.” And then, the Savior Who said that He and the Father are one, goes on to say that the Spirit and He are one as well: “He will not speak on His own…”

The Spirit speaks the same truth spoken by God the Father and God the Son, as we’re ready to hear it. But what does that mean?

Well, here’s an example of how the Spirit speaks truth that no one was ready to hear before Jesus' death and resurrection. To a first century church grappling with whether Gentiles needed to be Jews before becoming Christians, living in a world where men ruled the roost in a patriarchal society, and where at least 25% of the Roman Empire’s population were slaves, Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, probably not fully cognizant himself of the implications of his words, wrote in the book of Galatians, “There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.” The Church is still being taught by the Holy Spirit the truth contained in those words. It wasn't until 1970, for example, that we Lutherans in North America caught up to one thing that these words surely meant when we began to ordain women into pastoral ministry.

The Spirit will never teach us anything contrary to what God the Father and God the Son have already revealed to us; God never contradicts Himself. But in these times between Jesus’ ascension and the day He returns to the earth, the Spirit will continue to unfold God’s truth for us so that we understand more deeply what it means to be part of God’s kingdom.

We’ll never fully understand the Trinity. Still, we have experienced how God has, through the centuries, patiently revealed Himself as one God in three Persons.

My Geometry teacher in high school, Mr. Allen, knew how difficult Mathematics was for me. I had flunked Algebra I the year before and had to take it again in the summer. But, intent on going to college, I registered for Mr. Allen’s class. It was tough slogging for me. But Mr. Allen wouldn’t let me give in to my penchant for laziness in subjects that failed to interest me. He would go out of his way to help me understand the lesson at hand. When we got to the unit on the Pythagorean Theorem, I remember him saying to the class, “Mr. Daniels is very knowledgeable when it comes to History. You might be interested in knowing…” And then, Mr. Allen told us a little about the sixth century-BC mathematician Pythagoras who came up with the Pythagorean Theorem. Mr. Allen was trying to hook me and students like me. After he’d explained the theorem and how it worked to us, he would look around the class room for the confused faces. Mine was always among them. So, he’d explain it in a different way. And if we still didn’t get it, he’d choose one of us to come up to the chalkboard to go through things step-by-step. His patience was amazing! And, miracle of miracles, I passed the class!

On this We-Don’t-Get-It Sunday, Holy Trinity Sunday, we can say that through the centuries, first through Israel, then through Jesus, and now through His Holy Spirit, God has patiently revealed Himself to all of us. He’s still revealing Himself to us.
  • In the Father, we understand God is our Creator and that God calls us to turn away from sin and toward Him and toward others.
  • In the Son, we understand that when we turn, we can fall trustingly into the arms of Jesus for forgiveness.
  • In the Spirit, we receive new life and the power to move toward becoming the people God made us to be.
We can never fully explain God. But we have experienced God, Who patiently and repeatedly reveals Himself and His will for our lives: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Blue coast

These two photos inspired me... the beach, the sun, the coastal living in general.

So I went into the search for beautiful coastal inspiration. How gorgeous would it be to have a little home on the beach? Breakfast on the porch, then a swim and some sunshine. Beach lunch. And a gorgeous promenade.
Beautiful blues, greens, earthy colors to follow this trend. Love it!

Announcement Regarding Sabotage By Two Video Individuals

Hello my friends and readers,

I know I have not posted anything recently here on my personal blog but I want to tell you the recently I was introduced to two Video individuals. They have "SABOTAGE" my client project and are using my company for their own benefit. I provided this two individuals access to cover one of my client events, and even to help them we agree to allow them to use our TV company name.

Well, now this two unethical are desperate to make some money, but what they have done is ruin a possible great relationship. I ask you to be cautions when you deal with this kind of "CROOKS."

I have no other option to send them a letter of "CEASE AND DESIST" as well my law firm will be sending also a letter of "CEASE and DESIST" to this two individuals. They are been officially warned the if they use the footage of my event and try to make money without our company authorization the is consider criminal activity and may be punishable by court of law.

Here is the meaning of Cease and Desist: A cease and desist (also called C & D) is an order or request to halt an activity, or else face legal action. The recipient of the cease-and-desist may be an individual or an organization.

The term is used in two different contexts. A cease-and-desist order can be issued by a judge or government authority, and has a well-defined legal meaning. In contrast, a cease-and-desist letter can be sent by anyone, although typically they are drafted by a lawyer.

SATC 2 London Premiere

Small update: I had such a blast! Samantha is genius! Liza Minelli rocked it!!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
In 4 hours we are going downstairs (yes the cinema is literally downstairs) to watch, what else? SATC 2! Can't wait, like all of you I'm really exited about the frocks, the shoes, the decor, and the girls! The London premiere was on Thursday and the 4 leading ladies rocked it, literally! To be honest, I think they looked better in London than they did in NY. SJP was wearing an incredible Alexander McQueen from his S/S 2008 collection as a tribute to the late designer. Actually on the SATC premiere 2 years ago she wore the same combo, McQueen dress and a Philip Treacy hat.

Kim Cattrall in Thierry Mugler, fabulous!

Cinthia Nixon in stunning Narciso Rodriguez

Kristin Davis, dazzling in vintage Norman Norell

I know many of you had plans to watch it these days, what did you think??

1) No damn locker available, 2) So super packed, 3) Glenys had reserved the VIP area for her bday celebration.

Plus, I didn't have to see the things I didn't like. Man, you bitch like a girl you know that? Sux2bu & i feel sorry for you. hmmmm.... OKAY, the best part is that we don't have to share the dancefloor with the people we don't like sharing with. This world is selfish.

So

Why we get "bored" with the Bible...and other worthwhile things

"The unspoken secret is that many people find the Bible boring. This is a serious problem and a quite recent one. Ancient Greek* had no word for boredom. The word did not have its current meaning in English until the last few centuries. We look at the ancient world, and they had no television, no Internet, no movies, no iTunes, and virtually no books--and we think of how boring it must have been.

"But the ancients were not bored. We are the ones who get bored because our capacity to focus our attention, to delight our minds in sustained thought, has been weakened by our dependence on external stimuli." (John Ortberg in The Me I Want to Be)

Our capacity not only to read God's Word, but to lead useful, fulfilling lives in general, increasingly depends on our capacity to break away from the crowd to read, to think, to use the minds God gave us, instead of the hapless victim impulse and the unreflective herd mentality.

Burns on Leadership

Before becoming a great thinker and lecturer on leadership, James MacGregor Burns was a presidential biographer. I'm reading his biography of Franklin Roosevelt right now. Here are a few thoughts on political leadership that really apply to all leadership, including pastoral leadership (sorry for the sexist pronouns, but this was written in 1956):
The test of great political leadership is not whether the leader has his way; it is, first, whether the leader makes the most of existing materials he has to work with, and, second, whether he creates new materials to help him meet his goals...

There is an important difference between the politician who is simply an able tactician, and the politician who is a creative political leader. The former accepts political conditions as given and fashions a campaign and a set of policies best suited to the existing conditions. The latter tries to change the matrix of political forces amid which he operates, in order that he may better lead the people in the direction he wants to go. The former operates within slender margins; the latter, through sheer will and conviction as well as political skill, tries to widen the margins within which he operates. He seeks not merely to win votes but consciously to alter basic political forces such as pubic opinion, party power, interest-group pressure, the governmental system.

Watson, There's a Game Afoot: Perception is Reality

I'm a big fan of the original Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle and just finished re-reading the first Holmes novella, A Study in Scarlet, published in 1887. In it, Holmes, with his super-human powers of deduction, determines "whodunit," yet two bumbling Scotland Yard inspectors, Gregson and Lestrade get the credit. This outrages Holmes' friend, Dr. Watson, even though Holmes had warned him several times that this would be the case.

"I don't see that they had much to do with the [murderer's] capture," he tells Holmes.

Holmes' reply: "What you do in this world is a matter of no consequence...The question is, what can you make people believe that you have done?"

This was 1887, folks! Yet Holmes' creator, Doyle, understood the game of celebrity, advertising, and PR that's played today in politics, business, and entertainment: Perception is reality. In the case of politics and governance, it seems, that pols and handlers agree that it isn't what's actually accomplished, it's what voters can be convinced has been accomplished.

It isn't right. But armies of handlers and media consultants prove that the "perception is reality" game is still afoot.

Most react as Holmes did. "It's how the game is played," says the cynical public.

But Watson was right to be outraged, don't you think?

The Yellow Mood

Happy Saturday!! Hope you are enjoying and having a great time. Here the sun is NOT shining, it's plainly raining. But I'm not going to complain, I don't mind, I had not outdoor plans today so Im happy to just stay in and catch on my blog reading (sorry if I haven't been around your, I will!), magazine reading and some house chores too. But I still wanted a bit of sunshiny eye candy and to me the best way to achieve it is through yellow. Many of you have done the yellow post so here are my faves. Enjoy the weekend and to those in the US, Happy Memorial weekend!

It's common knowledge that there are many bikini types, the brazilian, the american, the string and blabla.
I love these retro styles, and especially the one pieces. So elegant. But I'm against one pieces in general, they kind of ruin your tan, I know shallow but truth. And the brazilian, eeeh what? well yes not THE brazilian, the tiny winy but the low cut let's say, even Victoria Secret has some ;)
What do you wear?

yeah, I don't look like Gisele by any chance but... oh well!

Pachanga Fest 2010 Pics and Report!

Whew, finally. I can't believe it's already Friday, almost a week since this lil festival that could chugged into Austin and blew up the spot. What am amazing event!

Shout out to everyone involved as I feel this festival is not only a welcome addition to the Austin musical landscape, but a much needed experience for people who may or may not know the depth and breadth of Latin music.

It ain't all salsa, that's for sure. Every group I saw throughout the day brought their own thing to the table and totally killed it. Not a sleeper in the bunch.

Anyway, I assembled my crew, and hit the fest midday, just in time to see Brownout!

My daughters Elena and Eva

Buddy Brynn

And Zigaboo

All of whom love Brownout.

As do I. What a way to start our musical journey. With that FUNK!

Seen these guys many times, and will see them many more times. One of the bands that make Austin great.

But hands down, the best band that I saw that day was Y La Orkestra. Straight up, they came from Tucson and blew the whole crowd away.

I guess these dudes are big collaborators with Calexico, one of my all time favorite bands, and well, after seeing them Y La Orkestra has become one of my favorite bands as well.

Such energy, they showed no fear in blending style after style into their own unique sound.

Like how Calexico does, but honestly these dudes kick it up a few more notches on the energy tip. Like they REALLY Bring it.

Check out some of their jams here.

Anyway they killed it. I uploaded some video to YouTube but it keeps not showing up. Hmm, I'll update if it does.

Wait, update, here it is:

Pilar Diaz was also pretty mind blowing.

As was San Antonio's all female Mariachi Las Altenas!

See what I'm getting at here. It was all "Latin Music" but none was the same. It went all over the place.

Even to the punk rock of San Antonio's Girl In A Coma, who my daughters seemed to like the best.

Hacienda was another favorite amongst the people.

Pacha Massive from New York came with a kind of funky soul.

But really I was just getting excited to see Bomba Estereo at that point.

DJ Dus held me down though till they came out. This dude was KILLING IT! Incorporation live instruments into his DJ set and twisting the cumbia sound into oblivion.

I need to hear and see more form this dude for sure.

The legend Roberto Pulido was in the house killin' it.

I stupidly didn't take any photos of Bomba Estereo, wasn't able to get all that close. But I did get some video. Check it out and get ready for yet another festival this weekend in Austin, Chaos in Tejas is REALLY GOIN' DOWN!

Anyway I'm already excited for Pachanga Fest 2011.
