To The Beach Haul

TO THE BEACH

Yeah okay, so I'm a bit late on this one but I haven't done a major haul for a loooong time and everyone still seems to be excited even though it's been and gone. Here's what I got!

Weekend Bronze cream bronzer
Get Away Bronze blush
Marine Life highlight powder (plus a backup!)
Sweet & Punchy eyeshadow
Firecracker eyeshadow
Sand & Sun eyeshadow
Sun Rush lustredrops
Life's a Breeze lip pencil
Temperature's Rising lip pencil
Float on By eye pencil
Beach Bound lipstick
Lazy Day lipstick
Splashing lipglass
Easy Lounger lipglass

And I have Flurry of Fun lipglass on it's way and I also bought the bronze oil but forgot to take a pic!!

Already Own:
Hipness blush
Shimmermoss eyeshadow
Humid eyeshadow
Pink Rebel lustredrops

Thoughts:
This was such a fantastic collection and I always love the May/June *summer* (US that is) collections, they've always been my fave, this one is no exception. I saved quite a bit of money as I already had Humid and Shimmermoss eyeshadows (permanent) and I bought Hipness from the Fafi collection and Pink Rebel lustredrops from Style Warriors last year.
My fave items from this collection are definitely Firecracker eyeshadow and Float on By eyeliner (everyone knows I'm a teal freak!) and I wish I got a backup of FOB as I've been using it a lot (can't wait to pair it with Partylicious pigment!!!!). I have to say, out of all of the highlight powders that MAC have created with the overspray, Marine Life is definitely the nicest, even when there's no overspray left. A fantastic collection and there was 6 items that I didn't get out of the whole lot, that I didn't already have (the other cream bronzer, both nail polishes, the olive eyeliner and 2 lipsticks...), so money WELL spent and looking back probably a little crazy hahaha.

Rock n' Roll: Jo Berryman house tour

Today's house tour is a real gem. A mix of eclectic, rock n' roll, creativity and individuality. It's interior designer Jo Berryman's home in London. Jo has an interior counsultancy business, Matrushka, and is a true band girl, after all she was married Guy Berryman of Coldplay.
The 4 storey Victoria home has some amazing details, like the gorgeous kitchen and the swoon worthy Carri-esque bedroom/closet. I'm absolutely loving those crystal bells hiding little treasures.

"Our musical travel film, "Hello Louisiana," will be presented at the Robinson Film Center at noon on Saturday, July 3rd," Says Monty Brown. "It's a chance to see what we've been up to during the past ten years while we've been traversing the US, Canada & Europe, making and showing travel films."

"There will be a Cajun buffet catered by Abbie Singer's Bistro to accompany the mouth-watering movie. Dessert — Bread Pudding from the recipe by Baton Rouge celebrity chef Don Bergeron (featured in the film) — will be served at Intermission."

"The film is a warm, impressionistic portrait of Louisiana: blues, folk, festivals, Cajuns & zydeco, cane and cottonfields, accordions and hot sauce, jazz & Mardi Gras, cowboys and outlaws, people you know and people you think you know."

"The food starts serving at 12 noon, the cost is $14: movie with a high class meal. For more details go to our website www.montyandmarsha.com"

Negotiations remain alive between musicians and the board of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra

Writes symphony musician Rick Rowell on Wed afternoon, "We saw the e-mail and blog info circulating about the SSO. We thought it was important to send the news out to musicians as we received it - before it came from someone else. Due to another turn of events, however, we may not be finished with all of this yet."

"People are still discussing some possibilities, and there is an exec. comm. meeting taking place even as I write this. So encourage those with whom you have contact to withhold judgment and keep their fingers crossed for another day or two."

Pre- and Post-Procedure Psalms

On Monday, when I underwent my heart catheterization and stent implant, I asked that two psalms be read aloud by my family before and after the procedure. My wife read Psalm 46 in the morning and in the evening, my son read Psalm 139. My wife and I were able to pray before I was wheeled in for my cath. I was, once upon a time, an atheist; but I can't imagine life without the God Who has ultimately revealed Himself to us in Jesus Christ. Here are the two psalms.

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult. Selah
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved; God will help it when the morning dawns.
The nations are in an uproar, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah
Come, behold the works of the Lord; see what desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow, and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.
“Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth.”
The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah

Psalm 139

O Lord, you have searched me and known me.
You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away.
You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely.
You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it.
Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there.
If I take the wings of the morning and settle at the farthest limits of the sea,
even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me fast.
If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light around me become night,”
even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is as bright as the day, for darkness is as light to you.
For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.
My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes beheld my unformed substance. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed.
How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
I try to count them—they are more than the sand; I come to the end—I am still with you.
O that you would kill the wicked, O God, and that the bloodthirsty would depart from me—
those who speak of you maliciously, and lift themselves up against you for evil!
Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord? And do I not loathe those who rise up against you?
I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts.
See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Sheer Heart Attack Update

Up to this point, I've really only felt like putting updates on Facebook on my condition, something my family also did. But here is the latest on my health situation.

On Thursday of last week, as a follow-up to my stop at the Logan hospital on June 11, I was scheduled for a heart stress test at Mid Ohio Cardivascular in Columbus. During that appointment, prior to the test, a tech did an extensive ultrasound examination. Something alarmed her, though she didn't let on at the time. However, there was a significant delay between the end of her exam and the arrival of the tech who was to do the stress test. So much time passed, in fact, that the tech brought in a few magazines for me to read. I suspected nothing. Later, one of the cardiologists came to see me and told me that I had had a heart attack and that there was significant damage to my heart.

My doctor was as shocked as I was. Except for a weakness for pretzels (a really bad thing), I eat healthfully. I exercise one-half hour each day, usually. There is also no family history of heart disease, my cholesterol levels have been good, my blood pressure perfect. Without these factors in my favor, my cardiologist, physician, and cardiac care nurses all emphasized, the heart attack I suffered would have killed me.

On Monday morning, I underwent heart catheterization at the McConnell Center of Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. I can't compliment enough the staff for the care I received, from the admission folks to the care nurses and to the doctors. They were incredible!

If you've never undergone a heart cath before, it's truly amazing. I remained awake throughout the procedure. The doctor, nurses, and surgical assistants and I spoke together throughout, even spending a lot of time talking about baseball as we were finishing up.

The catheter was inserted via an artery in the groin area, the only place I'm bruised...and that bruise is a doozy! The cath was run up into my heart. The doctor said that the left coronary artery was blocked just below its intersection with the circumflex artery. It was 100% blocked. Dr. Kander told me, "I'm going to try to put a stent through." Fortunately, the blockage formed relatively recently and was soft, making it easier to push the stent through. "We got it, buddy," the doctor said. "Thank You, God!" I said, "and thanks to all of you." "No," Dr. Kander told me, "just thank God."

My family reported that my color was already 100% better than it had been when I emerged from recovery.

The only setback I had that first day was what's known as a vegal episode. That was quickly and thoroughly dealt with.

On Monday night, our son, Phil, stayed with me at Riverside and the nurses were kind enough to move us to a suite where Phil could have a cot. We watched the Reds beat the Phillies. Yeah!

My heart function was significantly diminished by the blockage and subsequent heart attack. There's a number known as Ejection Fraction that measures, basically, the efficiency of the heart. An EF of 35% is considered dangerously low. On entering the hospital, mine was 25%. With medication, diet, and exercise, the goal is to build the heart muscle and get up to something more like 60 to 70% in the next year.

Wally Taylor, one of my seminary professors, suffered from a heart attack in 2002 and was at 18% EF and has done very well since. As part of the follow-up, I will be enrolled in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster. That may start between two to six weeks from now.

I will come back to work next week, but I will take naps regularly, per my doctor's orders.

I have follow-up appointments with my GP and my heart doc in July.

My guess is that two factors really contributed to my heart attack more than anything else: pretzels (salt is a major contributor to heart problems) and the sustained stress I put on myself. No one is more critical of me and no one has higher expectations of me than I do. In his book, Stress/Unstress, Dr. Keith Sehnert says that sustained stress triggers the fight-or-flight response, which includes the introduction of sugars and fats into the bloodstream.

I need to learn the truth of which my high school classmate, Marceile Tagart Redmon, reminded me the other day: Don't sweat the small stuff; and it's all small stuff. The only truly important things in life are God and the people for whom God died and rose on the cross in Jesus Christ. With God's help (and that of my family, friends, and church), I intend to try to remember that the next time I try to tell myself to get one more task done today. Jesus says, "Let today's troubles be sufficient for today." That's good to remember!

Evidently, the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra is dead; long live the symphony orchestra

Writes Deborah Scarlatto, a keen observer of the ups and downs of the local orchestra, " Last night the Shreveport Symphony Board voted to close the symphony. I am not privileged to details, but the musicians felt that they were very close to a workable solution."

Scarlatto continues, "I am having a great deal of difficulty grasping the idea that a group of adults would just pull the plug. Personally, I do not think this is a wise move and I hope I do not have to see any Symphony Board members for a long while. I know that I would want to share my feelings with them and I would not be very pleasant. Perhaps we can somehow keep the music and musicians playing through other venues. What a terribly sad day for the culture of this area."

Responding to her news, former SSO president David Lillien offered, "The silver lining is that now that the admin and board are gone, poof, a new organization can be formed."

And in a similar vein, Ky Mason offered, " Throughout this disturbing ordeal for our players and patrons, I have been recalling the events that led to the development of what is now the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. I believe there is much to gain from their experience, and, if I remember correctly, Shirley Trusty Corey had an instrumental hand in those efforts. I recommend we seek her input.

I believe there is much better opportunity of which the new regime can avail and achieve great success and a wonderfully realistic future - one that creatively meets the marketing and membership goals of today's societal interests!

Best of luck to all. There are many on the sidelines who will lend energy and support!"

East Bank Gallery party for painters Emily Ezell and Joshua Chambers on Thurs, July 8, 5:30 to 7:30 pm

Emily Ezell is a young artist who is ready to ride her canvasses out of the Deep South. She has been working on her painterlyliness at La Tech and is doing quite nicely with portraits, figure studies and servings of crusty pie.

Connect with her development at her blog, emilyezell. That's where I also peeked into her version of the art world via the links she has listed on the right side of page. Quite a stimulating roll call, Emily.

Joshua Chambers is also a scrambling young artist, getting his first exhibits and teaching jobs after completing studies at La Tech. In fact, based on the informative joshuachambers.com, it is apparent that he loves painting and is working pell mell to find his voice.

When I posted a photo of a painting that he exhibited recently at Meadows Museum there was a positive reaction. In it, a sort of ridiculous fellow on a winged contraption flies in a circle while tethered to the top of an oil derrick located in the desert.

Meet the artists and examine their work at East Bank Gallery in a reception on Thurs, July 8, 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

SEAWORLD

Shopping these days have been really unproductive. I only bought a pair of heels today. + I don't even know when I'm gonna wear it cos its so mofo high.
Now, I dare say I fully understand the meaning of retail therapy. Working makes me feel so "locked up" and each time I'm off, I just need to get out & buy buy buy, even though all the stuff I've been buying still remains in their paperbags. I really really really need my freedom back, I hate hate hate hate to be controlled :(

A moment ago, my mom just started nagging about how I should have gone JC. Hate it when she starts this, no matter how many times she repeats, nothing changes the fact that I made the wrong choice. So what if she was a top student who went into NUS? So what If she was the captain of the team? So what?
I think she should accept the fact that I'm lazy when it comes to studying and often I'd rather choose the easier way out in life.

ON A HAPPIER NOTE, My dad seems to be in good mood! He wants to buy over the little snowy village in NZ. HAHAHAHA WTF?!?! rlly? i don't believe. If the village is really good at all, no one would sell it away, & even the mayor himself would fork out the money to buy it over. Wtf, I'd rather he invest money on me!
Lalalalala, He does whatever he wants, I'm still happy cos he's willing to sponsor me some $$$, I'm happy! I'm gonna get myself a underwater camera! Yippee hoo hooo :D:D:D:D:D

P.S: I love sponsors! Anyone?

Alan Dyson: "Seeing Heaven"

Stewart Alan Dyson is a designer, visual artist and complete musician. "Seeing Heaven," one of his latest tunes, is built on lyrics written by local poet David Love Lewis. In turn, part of the lyric owes to the late poet George A Burton III, says Lewis.

The Fall Guy

The Fall Guy TV show was a 60 minute action series on ABC about a movie stunt man who also worked as a bounty hunter to supplement his income. Sometimes he would also help people who were being abused by crooks.

Fall Guy Cast:

Lee Majors ............ Colt Seavers
Heather Thomas ........ Jody Banks
Douglas Barr .......... Howie Munson
Markie Post ........... Terri Michaels
Joann Pflug ........... Samantha "Big" Jack
Nedra Volz ............ Pearl Sperling
Robert Donner ......... Edmund Trench

Fall Guy Theme Song Lyrics

Title: The Unknown Stuntman

By: Glen A Larson, Gail Jensen, and David Sommerville

Well, I'm not the kind to kiss and tell,
But I've been seen with Farrah.
I've never been with anything less than a nine, so fine.

I've been on fire with Sally Field,
Gone fast with a girl named Bo,
But somehow they just don't end up as mine.

It's a death defyin' life I lead,
I take my chances.
I die for a livin' in the movies and Tv.
But the hardest thing I ever do,
Is watch my leadin' ladies,
Kiss some other guy while I'm bandagin' my knee.

I might fall from a tall buildin',
I might roll a brand new car.
'Cause I'm the unknown stuntman that made Redford such a star.

I've never spent much time in school,
But I taught ladies plenty.
It's true I hire my body out for pay, Hey Hey.

I've gotten burned over Cheryl Tiegs,
Blown up for Raquel Welch.
But when I end up in the hay it's only hay, Hey Hey.

I might jump an open drawbridge,
Or Tarzan from a vine.
'Cause I'm the unknown stuntman that makes Eastwood look so fine.

Fall Guy Opening Narrative:

Recited by: "Lee Majors"

"This is the story of one of America's great unsung heroes. I mean you've seen him but you never knew who he was. You've cheered for him and cried for him and women have wanted to die for him. But did he ever get any credit or the girl? No! He's what we call the "Stuntman" and the reason I'm talking so fondly about him is, well because it's me, Colt Seaver. Anyway, picture work isn't wall-to-wall employment so maybe you wonder how a guy keeps his head together? Well, one way is to wait by the phone and wait and wait. The other is to take an occasional job with the court system of the United States of America where a man is considered innocent until proven guilty. Unfortunately sometimes a lot of these people get out of jail on what we call bail and they'd run like hell!...and that's where I come in. I sometimes pick up rent money trying to find them and bring them back to justice...and that reminds me of a very interesting case."

I even had the Fall Guy Lunchbox! And who didn't have this poster of Heather Thomas?

Monday Outfit

Outfit post time! You were all extremely sweet and all your comments made my days so here I am again. Out and about on Saturday, in the "wild" garden near our apartment. This is what I wore on Saturday.
The weather was (and is) gorgeous, so after taking these, we took off with my mom who was visiting and did a bit of shopping. We went to the King's Road and ended up at Laduree in Harrods where I tried for the first time THE amazing macarons. ok I have to say that I wasn't big on macarons, well that's the past, Laduree knows their business and their macarons were like heaven!

Yep, Mom and me jumping! so much fun, you should definitely try it with your mom. Thank you mom for these days and thank you so much for being my photographer yesterday.
