Supt. Todd White is pleased to announce that our Summer XLT program will be offered this year as initially planned. It will offer academic and enrichment classes in as many locations as possible. The final decision on summer school sites will be determined as quickly as possible, and each school will notify its students/parents about site assignments. Students should be enrolled in summer school already. If not, parents should contact their school immediately.
Transportation
FREE school bus service will be provided for students traveling to their home school site for Summer XLT if they are currently identified as a bus rider. Bus riders who are enrolled in Summer XLT by Monday, May 10, will have bus service beginning the first day of Summer XLT (June 1, 2010). Students who enroll after May 10 will need to provide their own rides the first week. Transportation Services will send a postcard confirming Summer XLT bus information.
Summer Adventure Club
Summer Adventure Club will be offered at all elementary schools except Gashland, which will be combined at Clardy. In addition, The Great Adventure program for 6th and 7th graders will be offered at one site – Antioch Middle School. If your student is not already enrolled in these programs, please call 413-5475 to determine availability of openings.
Next Year
It appears that legislation still pending in the Missouri General Assembly will not significantly impact NKC Schools summer school funding for THIS year. However, it is very likely that summer school funding for 2011 will be significantly reduced and limited to remedial core classes and credit recovery. But for this year, NKC Schools will be able to provide a strong summer learning program.
