New First Day & Earlier Start to Winter BreakDistrict officials have revised the NKC Schools academic calendar for the 2010-11 school year. The following changes were approved May 11 by the Board of Education.
- Aug. 16, 2010 First Day of School for ALL Students
- Dec. 20, 2010 Winter Break Begins
After further consideration of the calendar’s financial impact, the work year for teachers and support staff was shortened by two days. The revised calendar extends Winter Break by commencing two days earlier (on Dec. 20.) These are not paid holidays, and they help save on staff salary costs.
In addition, the early release “Jump Start” day for students in grades K, 6 and 9 (set for Aug 16) was eliminated to make it a full day for all students. This change was necessary to meet state attendance requirements (days and minutes) for all students.
