Basketball
The Staley Girls Basketball team defeated Benton 48-42 in a state playoff game on Wednesday, March 3. They now advance to play O’Hara Saturday, March 6 at 6 p.m. at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.
Swimming & Diving
Oak Park, Staley and Winnetonka had competitors at the state swimming and diving meet Feb. 19-20 at the St. Peters Rec Plex. As a team, Staley’s 200 Medley Relay team earned 12th place with a team of Patti Hemmet, Alyssa Powers, Carley Bruscato and Sam Shawver. Alyssa Powers swam to a 5th place finish in the 100 Breaststroke event.
Oak Park diver Laurel Bartholomew placed 10th. Winnetonka diver Sydnee Schram was 15th.
Wrestling
In this year’s state wrestling meets, Winnetonka and North Kansas City High School competed in Class 4. Oak Park and Staley wrestled in the Class 3 meet. Oak Park earned 2nd place as a team. Individual STATE CHAMPIONS included:
Weight 103: Bradley Perkins, Oak Park
Weight 125: Cody Brewer, Oak Park (3-time state champion)
Weight 130: Gage Harrison, Oak Park
Weight 160: Patrick Rhoads, Staley
Other top individual finishes included:
Weight 112: Trevor Engle, Staley – 3rd place
Weight 140: Brian Haynes, Oak Park – 3rd place
Weight 171: Hashem Omari, Oak Park – 2nd place
