Dungeons and Dragons, it is said it's first role playing game. It has evolved from strategic wargame 'Chainmail', based on boards dividied into
hexagon fields. Present edition is based at simple d20 mechanics, that allows to play in various fantasy worlds. Originally created by TSR(Tactical Study Research), but in case of financial problems, in years 90 D&D became a property of Wizards of the Coast. WotC firstly published basic manuals of second edition of 'Advanced Dungeons and Dragons', few own extras, so that they could publish they own edition, 'Dungeons and Dragons 3rd Edition'. The most popular worlds (settings), where action can take place are Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, Planescape, but there are many more, such as Dragonlance, Dark Sun, Spelljammer, Eberron.
