District Activities Highlights

Football
District football teams took to the field Friday, Aug. 27, with the following results. Northtown lost on the road to St. Joe Central by the score of 27-8. Oak Park defeated Liberty North at William Jewell with a score of 55-0. Staley beat Raytown 44-13 at the District Activity Complex, and Winnetonka fell to Kearney 45-0 at the District Football Stadium.

Oak Park
In Oak Park’s win over Liberty North, Nick Elmore had six carries for 60 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for a touchdown. Eric Greely had five carries for 130 yards and two touchdowns. The Northmen take on Fort Osage this Friday, Sept. 3, at the District Activity Complex.

Staley
The Falcons stormed out to a 37-0 lead in the first half of Friday night’s game and never looked back. The defense recorded 10 sacks and recovered four fumbles. Defensive end Nate Lohn had two sacks and five tackles for a loss.

Quarterback Michael Rich was 9 for 13 for 164 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran in a touchdown. Running back Evan Campbell ran for two touchdowns and caught a 54-yard touchdown pass as well. Tight ends Nick Duffy and Chris Stumpf each caught their first career touchdown. Kicker Michael Brinkmeyer kicked a 26-yard field goal in the 1st quarter.

Softball
The North Kansas City High School softball team hosted Oak Park at Macken Park on Aug. 30. The final score was Oak Park 13, Northtown 1. Senior Jazmyn Holt scored the solo run for Northtown.

Soccer
Staley and Winnetonka faced off in the Winnetonka Soccer Tournament at the District Activity Complex. The game was scoreless in the first half of play. The only goal came in the second half from Staley junior John Hatfield, set up by senior Mark Brohmer. Staley junior Mitchell Gibler kept the sheet clean in goal for the Falcons 1-0 win.

Tennis
Winnetonka vs. Oak Park
Winnetonka hosted Oak Park on Aug. 24 for a girls tennis match. In singles, Oak Park Varsity scored 8 wins to Winnetonka's 1. JV competition had the same 8-1 result. An exciting match up in Varsity doubles ended with a tie breaker as Oak Park edged out Winnetonka 11-10.

Oak Park vs. North Kansas City
Oak Park girls tennis took to their home court in a match up with North Kansas City High School on Wednesday, Aug. 25. The Varsity Oakies defeated the Hornets by a score of 6-3. Oak Park JV won 7-2.

Northtown’s Katy Lehenbauer had a big week with eight wins. She brought her career total to 125 wins and surpassed the school record. Katy is on pace to shatter school records and make her mark on the state record books. She is currently ranked 11th all time.

Oak Park defeated William Chrisman in dual play on Tuesday, Aug. 31. Varsity won 7-2 and JV 9-0. Varsity player Ali McDaniel had a great come from behind victory, taking 1st place after winning the tie breaker. The match sealed the victory for the Northmen.

Volleyball
Oak Park volleyball opened the season against Fort Osage at home in front of a great crowd. Oak Park Varsity won 2-0 (25-14, 25-13). JV also won 2-0 (25-18, 25-9). The teams take to the court again Sept. 2 at Park Hill. Games start at 5:30 p.m.
