Shaun Tait back in Aussie fold

South Australia speedster Shaun Tait has taken big strides towards an international cricket comeback.

Tait, who announced an indefinite break from cricket in January, citing physical and mental exhaustion, joined Cricket Australia-contracted players for a team camp at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland last week.

The compulsory player camp finished on Sunday, but Tait moved on to Brisbane to train with the Australia one-day squad ahead of the three-match series against Bangladesh in Darwin which begins on Saturday.

A Cricket Australia spokesman said the camp was pleased to have Tait back and bowling well.

"Tim Nielsen invited Shaun to get some training practice with the Australia team and Australia A team, who have both been training at Allan Border Field," the spokesman said.

"He bowled a long spell on the centre wicket today against some of the Australian batsmen, including Mike Hussey.

"He certainly built up quite a sweat."

Tait will not play against Bangladesh, but appears to be on track to meet his aim of being considered for national selection in 2008-2009.

Captain Ricky Ponting has been rested from the Bangladesh series to speed his recovery from wrist surgery. Opener Matthew Hayden has been ruled out with an Achilles tendon strain and fast bowler Brett Lee has been granted leave to deal with the breakdown of his marriage.

Michael Clarke will lead Australia in Ponting's absence.
