Veterans Day Salute

In honor of Veterans Day, we salute those who selflessly serve their country. And during this season of Thanksgiving, we also thank them and their families for the sacrifices they endure to keep America safe, protect her citizens and ensure their freedoms.

Sadly, these heroes sometimes give the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and never come home. In honor of the final chapter of one hero's story, we want to celebrate the life and service of Capt. Michael Scott Speicher.

Speicher grew up in the Northland and attended Lakewood, Eastgate and Winnetonka before moving to Florida at the age of 15. He graduated from high school in Jacksonville, then Florida State University, and eventually joined the Navy, becoming a fighter pilot. Despite the distance, he sustained many of his childhood friendships that began here in the Northland.

To learn more about this military hero with local roots, you can read his background story at: http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/msspeicher.htm.

If you know someone who personally knew Scott Speicher, please contact Mary Jo Burton in the Office of Communications at 413-5050 or mburton@nkcsd.k12.mo.us. The District is compiling a collection of "memories" in his honor.
