Oak Park Journalism Students Attend Summer Camps to Broaden Knowledge

Four Oak Park students experienced journalism on a wider scale this summer.

The Kansas City Association of Black Journalists selected sophomore Gabrielle Young to attend their week-long intensive camp for aspiring black student journalists. During her time there, she wrote several stories, attend press conferences including one with Kansas City Mayor Mark Funkhouser and toured media outlets including KCTV-5 and KPRS Radio 103.3 FM.

Senior Gina Drapela, editor of this year's The Northmen's Log newspaper, attended an editorial leadership class at the Flint Hills Summer Media Workshop on the campus of Kansas State University, Manhattan. She redesigned the newspaper and learned many skills she plans to apply this fall.
