Community Service Project Has NKCHS DECA Chapter “Diggin’ Northtown”

DECA Chapter members from North Kansas High School now know a lot more about landscape work, having spent first semester using shovels, rakes, mulch and dirt to complete a community service beautification project on the Northtown campus.

Students led by DECA adviser Eddie James and student project manager Chris Adams, initially chose to clean up flower beds in the area around the fountain outside the Norclay Building as their project’s focus.

“The grass and weeds had taken over, and we just wanted the area to look more pleasing,” explained James, who worked with DECA students to clean up the area surrounding the memorial.

One good idea sprouted another when participating students decided to extend the reach of their community cleanup efforts to include flower and shrubbery beds at the district administrative complex.
