I just upgraded to CS5 a few months ago for $600. The 5.5 upgrade would cost another $400. Adobe is easily my least favorite company in the world.
Just like an iPhone, you really want to get it at (or soon after) release to get the max "value" before it gets superseded!

I'm saying that all those people who said, "Everyone who likes the Beatles already have all of their albums" (ahem, that list includes me!) weren't just wrong, they were epically wrong.
Second.
Although... it could have just been fans who already owned pirated copies deciding that they liked the Beatles so much that they should legally download it.
I do that sometimes if I like something a lot and regret having pirated it.

You don't force a boutique operation to lower prices by lowering demand.
It is fundamental economics.
Also, 999 of 1000 things which get said here have already been researched by BizDev, R&D, Manufacturing, etc. in Cupertino.
They know we want a G5/Power4 Lite. They know we're savvy enough not to accept a 7470 or some other rebadged G4.
They know that the G4 is not as fast as some PIV and Athlons. They know we know this.
They know that MHz matters, no matter how much they downplay it.
They know the Photoshop bake off is a bad metric.
So, since I don't care either way, complain, don't complain, write your congressman, eat J-ello, but know for a fact that unless you have an amazing insight, a moment of pure clarity, or an unused superchip design in you desk drawer, that you won't be changing the future with suggestions, and you'll only impact it negatively by boycotting Apple products.
As a shareholder and a customer, that idea spells doom, not development.
Do what you want to do, but get your facts straight, and don't talk out of your sunshine hole!

a move to text based mediums would be great. It's easy to see that increases in technology should lead to increasingly technically difficult entertainment (hence ipod -> photo -> video), but it's not about the technology. It's about the entertainment of it and it's suitablility to the medium (ipod).
And in the hightech, fast paced world we live in, books, magazines, and newspapers are a welcome change and a fantastic form of entertainment, as they have been for centuries. Combining written text with the technology in the form of screens you want to read on all day long would be an excellent advance. It would be very cool if the ipod got wifi capabilities and you could download print media from ITMS and work RSS into the ipod too.
Imagine- wherever you go, the ipod finds internet access and updates itself automatically, and allows you to purchase books whenever you like. Fit the whole library in your pocket if you like.
The clincher is going to be the screen, though. Particularly because nothing is nicer than reading outside on a sunny day, but LCDs tend to suck at that. Also important would be wireless capabilities- could it use phone networks for internet access? Speeds wouldn't be a problem for text.
mmm, now if only all the rumors come together in one device without it becoming muddled or oversized, this could be spectacular.

agree that the mono mixes are better. but leave the stereo ones alone.I hope the Beatles catalog will include both versions. For example, the mono version of Blue Jay Way was much different than the stereo version, so I'll have to get both.

steve is right, the basic thing is the ipod works well, and it is very simple to use. Itunes helps everything by being a first class program that is always getting frequent updates.
only thing is, apple needs to let record labels/artists come up with variable pricing.
so catalog albums will cost less, and labels can get money from singles.

On a full sized computer? That's horrible. Adobe has to get their act together and make flash more efficient before they can be allowed on the iphone.
Well, yes, on a full-size C2D iMac.
But, did you notice the part where on a similar, C2D AOPEN Mini, running Windows 7, IE8 runs the same Flash movie at 0%-1%, Chrome and Firefox at 4%, but Safari goes to almost 30%.
I'd say it's Apple that has the problem, and not Adobe.
Flash works just fine, and it's useful and necessary to the vast majority of users. Adobe seems to be doing a very good job with 10, and from what I've seen, it runs just fine on mobiles presumably less powerful than the iPhone.
The way I see it, if there is a pi$$ing match between Apple and Adobe, and Adobe takes its ball (Creative Suite) and walks away from Apple, the Mac OS will die, for all practical purposes.
Anyway, the iPhone must have Flash, if it is to remain competitive, and Apple really needs to dedicate some resources, and make sure Flash (and Java) run better on OS X.

Lol... 8 mp is a bad idea in a lens that size... even more people fall to the marketing ploys.
As long as its the same quality as the 5mp iphone 4... it will be fine but otherwise i am disappointed in apple.

Again as I stated before... Apple is really starting to dabble in the 3D interface. The album art is a good example of this. Granted its a rip off of someone else's idea...No idea of the name of the app but I was playing around with it a few months back that did exactly this. *shrugs* Whatever. It makes me wonder if there is any serious GUI updates for 10.5 that we have yet to see.

No, it certainly isn't. It's proof that we're evolving (albeit, slowly).
I'm afraid I have to disagree with you. Humans are social creatures, we evolved being social to help us survive against great odds. People with Asperger's/autism do not understand simple social cues and are often at a loss in situations where one should read subtext rather than what is literally said.
It's less an evolution than a branching off. What will happen when the world no longer requires mathematical savants to programme etc? These people will die out.
A study was done which showed that since the advent of online dating reported cases of people on the autistic spectrum increased; it's thought that the people who spent most of their time online were able to find partners and procreate, without having to do the whole rigmarole of courting, flirting, etc.
I'll see if I can find it, but I wouldn't boast about having Asperger's, it's better to boast about being an NT (Myers-Briggs personality type)

~Shard~ my jaw dropped when iLounge first reported the nano was 52% smaller in volume. Too bad it wasn't true, because then I would have had to get one!
You're not alone on that one! ;) :D My Engineer brain was trying to compute how that would even be possible, and to no avail... ;)

Never thought i would hear a republican say "illegal war". If this was a republican president, i think dime would be singing a different tune. If a democrat takes military action, suddenly the republicans become hippies.

There's zero incentive for Apple to do that. They're in the business of making $$. If they made a phone, and supported it for 5 - 7 years, no one would buy new ones, therefore no revenue. It's all about making cash...
Plus, a phone going on 3 plus years is pretty good. You got you money's worth. Sell it on E Bay-or Craigslist, and make some cash. Or like you said, an iPod.
Please bear in mind that Apple were still selling the iPhone 3G in May last year, less than a year ago!

When I look at Apple's app reviewing, I think about how Nintendo did gatekeeping in the 80's in order to maintain the quality of its game library. A few third party developers got pissed, you had the black cartridges, but it worked out in Nintendo's favor.
To me the gatekeeping is just a business decision. It's not perfect but it does filter out a lot of crap out there. Apple just has to streamline their review process to be more consistent

But once 4G is implemented, will Verizon's internet and downloading be the same or faster speed-wise than AT&T?
I know currently AT&T is faster...
I have quoted this before but I think it is worth mentioning. IMO this whole 4G thing is a useless until data plans are either cheaper or become truly unlimited.
In reality, of course, why do you need more than a few Mbps? For video. But video only needs a few hundred Kbps to maybe 1.5 to 2 Mbps for a tablet device. If that. And service plans are so data limited, youre not going to be routinely streaming huge amounts of video anyway when youre on a 3G or 4G network. Youll only do that over Wi-Fi. Who cares if the network is faster if its fast enough?

The "industry pros" are facing the plight of impending impotence.
Meh -- there was similar consternation with the original Mac, LaserWriter and PageMaker from the professional printers. And as then, it still is at the end of the day just a tool. The real talent is in how the tool is wielded.
Those that have at true talent have little to fear. Those that are more marginal... well, time marches on.

Why so many negatives, I love 3D stuff when it's done correctly. Lots of fun in my opinion. Though I really doubt Apple would put a 3D screen on the iPad.
Agreed - it's for fun, but not all fun. 3D has its place, just not on the iPad.

Jumping on the wild guesses her ;)
Anyone thought about airpollution yet?! Lower CO2 emmisions from production? :P
Apple's earlier been critizised for not being "environmental enough" in their production right?
Anyway, just a thought, hehe
I think you might be on the right track. And I think there will be some announcement about further environmental goals for the company.
Maybe the thinner font is a symbol of "reduced impact" or footprint of the company as a whole.
Since the MacPro and XServe are by far the most power hungry Apples, maybe that's the real reason they were soft launched a week early?
Don't forget all those saved trips to Blockbuster now with movie rental on iTunes! I'm sure Apple will calculate average carbon emissions of a trip to Blockbuster. :)

If I want a touchscreen based computer, I buy a iPad.
I can't imagine that you can work very productive if you must/can
switch from Mac OS X to iOS and vise versa in iMac.
It is important that Apple produce iMacs with a quad and hexacore processors (also for smaller displays)
and faster graphic cards build in. It is okay, that Apple has a (one!) slow and very energy efficient iMac in portfolio for classical office environment.
All other competitors has faster computers in the portfolio, so why not Apple?
The Mac Pro is not a solution for that issue (XEON processor, price, other application area).
iMac for rendering purposes and games today? Not really.
What is with USB 3.0 and SSDs in iMac? It is time Apple...
