June 1 is Last Day & Half Day

As a result of inclement weather days, the official last day of school is June 1, and it will be a half day. Graduation dates are not affected by this change.

Students in NKC Schools missed eight school days this winter because of severe weather and dangerous road conditions. The District had six makeup days built into its 2010-11 school calendar (May 23-27 and May 31). Students will attend school those six days, plus one more (June 1). The last day remains a half day. May 20 will be a full day since it is no longer our last day of school.

Even though students missed eight days of school, they need to make up only seven of them. State statute “forgives” one snow day for every two that are missed beyond the first six, if districts (like NKC Schools) included those six makeup days in their official calendars.

Adventure Club sites will be open June 1, but they will be closed June 2-3 for training and summer preparations. Summer Adventure Club begins June 6.

XLT, our summer extended learning program, begins June 6 as well. It runs Monday through Thursday and ends June 30.
