Brett Ratner: Miley's Madonna Vibe Was "Just Unbelievable"

Working with Miley Cyrus reminded Brett Ratner of a "Beautiful Stranger" he once knew.
"She turns it on," the filmmaker, who last month directed the video for Cyrus' new single "7 Things," exclusively tells E! News. "A lot like Madonna."
Ratner, who also helmed the pop icon's "Beautiful Stranger" video for Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, says he sees many similarities between Miley and Madonna, besides the whole first-initial thing.
"Where a lot of other artists are nervous or they're primping, you know, Madonna walks on and is casual; cameras are on her and then all of the sudden, wow!" Ratner says.
"Same thing with Miley. She's hanging out, she's telling the jokes, she's laughing, she's signing an autograph.
"Camera goes on her and she was just unbelievable."
And it takes a lot to impress the X-Men: The Last Stand director, who in addition to ordering around Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry has collaborated multiple times with seasoned divas such as Mariah Carey and Jessica Simpson.
"She's just a hard worker," Ratner says of Cyrus. "She knows what her job is; she came and gave me 200 percent."
Ratner also says that he was shocked that, of all the stars he has worked with in the past, he got the most personal requests from friends and friends-of-friends to scope out the "7 Things" shoot.
"Like I said, I've shot for Madonna, Mariah Carey—some of the biggest artist in the world—and I've never had more calls," Ratner says.
"I had at least a thousand calls. 'Can I just come by the set and watch Miley?' and I'm like, 'But you're 40 years old!' "
"7 Things" was the first single off of Cyrus' upcoming album Breakout, the 15-year-old's first effort not involving her Disney Channel alter ego, Hannah Montana (who will surely be there in spirit).
The album is out July 22. Meanwhile, check out Ratner's handiwork on "7 Things":

Nate Dogg Pleads Innocent
Apparently, Nate Dogg's not just going to roll over and play dead on this one.
Showing up to court today in a wheelchair—the result of a stroke suffered six months ago that left him partially paralyzed—the Prodigal Son rapper pleaded not guilty today to felony charges stemming from his arrest last month for threatening his estranged wife.
Dogg, whose real name is Nathaniel Dwayne Hale, faces two felony counts of making criminal threats, one felony count of stalking and one misdemeanor charge of driving with a suspended license from a previous DUI.
The 38-year-old rapper was collared June 23 after the California Highway Patrol fielded a 911 call from his spouse, identified only as Latoya C., claiming he was chasing after her on a Los Angeles freeway.
Hale also allegedly emailed her death threats.
He was released on $50,000 bond, which Compton Superior Court Commissioner Joel Wallenstein upped to $100,000 this morning. After doing so, the commissioner ordered the bailiff to temporarily place Dogg in a holding area until his camp paid the additional $50,000.
He was released a short while later and ordered not to have contact with or come within 100 yards of his missus.
The hip-hopster's next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 1, at which point a judge will decide whether or not there's enough evidence for the case to go to trial.

Indie Acts Gear Up For Festival Season
Rock festival season is underway, with Coachella and Bonnaroo already over, the Warped and Ozzfest tours traveling from coast to coast, and Chicago's Lollapalooza and New Jersey's All Points West events around the corner in early August.
But many even more indie-leaning festivals are also planned for this summer, including the Pitchfork Festival in Chicago July 18-20 (with Sebadoh, Mission Of Burma, Animal Collective, Jarvis Cocker, the Hold Steady, Vampire Weekend, Dizzee Rascal, Fleet Foxes, Spoon, et al); the electro dance party Hard Summer Fest in Los Angeles on July 19 (with Kid Sister, Steve Aoki, Spank Rock, N.E.R.D., and more); and All Tomorrow's Parties in New York September 19-20 (curated by recently reunited shoegaze veterans My Bloody Valentine).
The Download Festival, now four years old, also expands to three cities this year, taking place in San Francisco on July 19, Los Angeles on July 20, and Philadelphia on August 2. This year's Download Festival lineup will include alt-rock pioneers the Jesus & Mary Chain and Gang Of Four, as well as newbies like Mute Math, M83, Mates Of State, Tapes 'N' Tapes, Datarock, the Duke Spirit, Caribou, and Kaki King.

Miley Cyrus sparks outrage

Miley Cyrus has sparked further outrage after new raunchy pictures of her were leaked onto the internet.
The 15-year-old star of hit US TV show 'Hannah Montana' has allegedly been photographed in the shower which has made her long white T-shirt see-through, revealing she isn't wearing any underwear.
In another image, Miley poses provocatively with her T-shirt tied tightly under her breasts, exposing her stomach as she pouts at the camera.
The new photographs have been posted on an internet forum, with the user claiming he was sent them by Nick Jonas, of US band The Jonas Brothers, who briefly dated Miley last year. The internet user is also claiming he has more scandalous pictures of the multi-talented star, which he is now attempting to sell.
Miley, the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, is no stranger to controversy. Earlier this year, a revealing picture of her taken by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz for the cover of Vanity Fair magazine, showed the young star posing with just a blanket.
Following the controversial image, Miley released a statement saying: "I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed. I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologise to my fans who I care so deeply about."
Less than a month later, new pictures of the actress were leaked onto the internet, showing her posing in a variety of risque photographs wearing lacy red underwear, after reportedly being taken from her MySpace account.

Swift, West live up to the hype at the VMAs
He derided himself as a jerk; she told him he wasn't as bad as his misdeeds. He gave a sarcastic ode to his boorish behavior; she sang of an opportunity to grow from a very public stumble.
Both Kanye West and Taylor Swift took the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday and addressed a matter from last year's VMAs that had refused to die. Their separate but equally emotional performances seemed to provide resolution to the incident, while overshadowing the show's other moments, including Lady Gaga's eight VMA wins.
This year's Swift-West drama was a sequel to 2009's unscripted debacle in which West interrupted Swift's acceptance speech to proclaim that her trophy should have gone to Beyonce. The incident left Swift with hurt feelings, but West was the one who was seriously damaged from an intense backlash that took both a personal and professional toll.
As this year's VMAs drew closer, the buzz of a possible Swift-West showdown grew daily. Both were nominated for awards (which they lost), both were expected to perform and each has an album coming out this fall.
West increased the potential of fireworks with a recent rant on Twitter in which he again apologized to Swift and talked about how he had suffered emotionally and economically. Then on Saturday, The Associated Press learned that Swift would be singing a song about last year's most talked-about moment.
But instead of skewering West in song as Swift has done to others, she offered an olive branch with her song "Innocent," written earlier this year and due to appear on her new album: "Every one of us has messed up, too. ... I hope you remember today is never too late to be brand new."
The 20-year-old's poignant and powerful ode — which was introduced with a video montage that referenced last year's ceremony — sympathized with West's difficult time in the spotlight and his own admissions that his ego has often gotten in his way.
"Thirty-two and still growing up now; who you are is not what you did," she sang seriously and softly, adding: "You're still an innocent."
West's song, which was preceded by scattered boos from the audience, didn't seem to address last year's incident, but talked about the obnoxious behavior that has too often overshadowed his musical talent.
"I always find something wrong; you've been putting up with my (expletive) for too long," he sang, before launching into an unprintable chorus, which included the line: "Let's have a toast to scumbags."
With all that pathos, no other celebrities could really compete. Still, Lady Gaga tried — as the most outrageously dressed — and that's saying something, given Katy Perry's barely there outfit and Ke$ha's garbage bag-dress.
Gaga accepted her video of the year award with an outfit sure to anger PETA: a dress and chapeau made of what seemed to be cuts of raw beef, including a meat purse. It was one of her three zany outfits of the evening. She arrived in a spectacular outfit by the late Alexander McQueen: a Victorian-inspired gown and a Mohawk feather headdress atop a long white wig, with monstrous stilettos that made her look like she was on stilts. Later, she changed into a black dress so overflowing she needed help to get onstage to accept one of her trophies.
Cher — an over-the-top diva from a different era — gave Gaga her best-video award and noted she had been raising eyebrows when Lady Gaga "was still Baby Gaga."
Gaga was teary-eyed during her victories, and sang the title of her new album, "Born This Way," as she accepted the last award.
There were few other highlights, despite performances by Usher, Eminem and Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Linkin Park, and appearances by Nicki Minaj and the cast of MTV's "Jersey Shore."
Host Chelsea Handler gave the show its traditional bawdiness, though her jokes often fell flat. She did have a few zingers, most of them vulgar.
A pre-taped portion of her opening featured the host getting spanked multiple times by show participants in a backstage hallway before running into the recently freed Lindsay Lohan, who also gave her a swat.
"Have you been drinking?" Lohan demanded from Handler. "Do you think anyone wants to work with a drunk? Take it from me! They don't!"
Later, on stage, Handler implored the all-star audience to get wild.
"I want to encourage everybody to be on their worst behavior," she said. "I want to turn this mother out. ... Get your tongues ready because I want those tongues shoved in places they're not supposed to be."
But it was a relatively tame night; perhaps, given West's antics last year, the stars had learned a lesson.
