A Granada engagement

I came across Sara Lazaro through the spanish wedding blog Tul y Flores. Sara is a spanish wedding photographer and when I perused her site and blog I was fascinated. This engagement is absolutely gorgeous, not only because  the setting is gorgeous Granada but Sara has also captured beautifully this couple's love. Very happy to see that this kind of photography is also taking over Spain! Way to go Sara!

Balenciaga and Spain...dazzling exhibit @ de Young Museum! San Francisco salutes Couturier's fashions!

 



Years ago, President John F. Kennedy admonished wife - Jackie – when it came to his attention that the stylish 1st Lady was indulging in expensive designer creations bearing the label of celebrated Spanish Couturier “Cristobal Balenciaga”.

Too lavish?

What would common folks around the country think?

The brouhaha died down somewhat, however, when one of her staunch supporters – Joseph P. Kennedy (the President’s father) – discreetly footed the bill.

Today, the designer – who passed to spirit in 1972 – is still hailed as one of the fashion greats style-conscious women are inclined to bow down to.

Now, the prestigious de Young Museum showcases Balenciaga’s creations in a dazzling exhibit:

BALENCIAGA AND SPAIN

In essence, the curators at the de Young explore the impact of Spain’s culture, history, and art on the celebrated designer.

The collection – painstakingly researched and presented by Vogue’s European Editor at large – is truly a stand-out which features costume holdings and several exquisite Balenciaga gowns once worn by discerning well-heeled socialites in San Francisco (such as the likes of Mrs. C.H. Russell, Eleanor Christensen de Guigne and Elise S. Haas, to name a few).

The Exhibit curator – Hamish Bowles – has been exalted by critics who have gushed that under his tutelage – a varied and rich history advocating and preserving Balenciaga’s remarkable talents (and well-earned fame) have been captured in the minutest of spectacular eye-catching detail.

The “timeless” creations are on exhibit through July 4th.

A home that was a hostel

This central Madrid apartment was an old hostel with 11 tiny rooms and look at it now! This gorgeous family home now boasts 3  bedrooms and plenty of natural light. The kitchen is probably my favorite part, light and rustic with pretty Anthro details and gorgeous open shelves and white furniture. LOVE.

Bimba y Lola Online Shop

It's finally here, Bimba y Lola, the fab Spanish brand that all the "good girls" in Spain and abroad like, has finally launched an online store. Exciting times for those who don't live in the country. They ship all over Europe for now (I know many of my Americans friends love the brand so hopefully they have expansion plans). I love their leathers, they are soft like butter and come in an array of earthy colors.

Spain by Lindbergh

We went to the hairdresser the other day and while browsing Vogue Spain, I saw these gorgeous photos.  It's a Spanish celebration shot by the super talented german photographer, Peter Linbergh.  I absolute adore this celebration of everything Spain has to offer: beauty, creativity, talent. From Penelope Cruz to the Flamenco dancer Eva Yerbabuena and from Antonio Banderas to Manolo Blahnik, there is lots to celebrate.

Whites and Reds

Some combinations are glorious. Some fabric too, like velvet. This home below is an expression of joy with white sofas, a beautiful burgundy chester sofa and great contrast features. The kitchen is one of my faves parts, especially the free standing storage unit. The bedroom is also very cleverly designed creating a storage headboard. 

Are you ready for the weekend? I couldn't be more excited, this has been one of the longest weeks ever so Friday afternoon couldn't come any sooner or faster!!

Olivia Soaps

Pretty things should be shared, and if they smell nice even more, right? Through a comment in one of my favorites spanish blogs, Una Mosca en la Luna, I came across the Natural Soaps Olivia. Olivia are handmade soaps completely organic with natural materials like karite beurre and coconut oil. One of the things that caught my attention is that they manufacture completely unique soaps for weddings as favors. The process is completely handmade and personalised to the bride and groom tastes. A penthouse in Madrid

This apartment in Madrid is the result of a deep transformation led by Spanish interior designer Pedro Rubio. I came across it on Nuevo Estilo and loved the mix of classic and modern elements, like the leather sofa and lucite chairs and also the beautiful textiles used, like the suzani in the bedroom and the perfect cushion in the living room. 

El Tiovivo de Clara

I admire entrepreneurs, especially if they are women and especially if their business is a result of a dream. Alba is a Spanish mom and owns a party company.  A friend of her, Natalia,  contacted me last week (without Alba knowing it) to show me El Tiovivo de Clara (Clara's Carousel) and what they do. She gave me a bit of a background and I was immediately taken by her story. Who doesn't like good organized pretty parties? I do! Ibiza retreat

I was blown away by the beauty of these photos. Can Talais is set on a hiltop in Ibiza and has some fantastic views. This is the location of the fabulous wedding I posted earlier today. The story of it is also very interesting. The British actor Terry Thomas discovered the old finca in the 1960's while horse riding with his wife, they rebuilt the house in true Ibiza style. The hotel is still run in the family by Thomas' son and wife. Isn't it gorgeous? And isn't it a fabulous fantastic location for a wedding??
