Dig for a Cure
The North Kansas City District Football Stadium at North Kansas City High School hosted two outdoor high school varsity volleyball matches on Sept. 27, 2010. The matches served as a fundraiser for the The Greater Kansas City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. A portable court was placed on top of the football field so that North Kansas City could play Staley, and Oak Park could take on Winnetonka. The event raised $1,824.10.
Girls Tennis
The Lady Hornets Varsity finished the season with a 6-6 record. Some of the younger players stepped up to help make the team more competitive. First year Varsity letter winners included Taylor Thompson, Kim Pham, Ariana Fakeri, and Tram Bui. The Hornets placed 3rd at Districts as a team, and Katy Lehenbauer and Sara Tuncten advanced to the state qualifying match.
Marching Band Contest Results Are Impressive
On October 12, all four district high school bands traveled to Missouri Western State University to compete in the 25th Missouri Tournament of Champions. Winnetonka took first place in the 2A division. In the 3A category, North Kansas City placed second. Oak Park and Staley did not place. The bands are categorized by number of players and not school size. Winnetonka is the only band to have competed in all 25 of the championships.
