Several North Kansas City Schools students displayed their talents during a benefit recital for the Joy H. Browne Music Education Scholarship held April 10 at Highlands Community of Christ Church. More than $700 was collected for the scholarship established in memory of Browne, who served as the district’s supervisor of music for 15 years.
Among those performing were: Leah Clark, flute, Oak Park High School; Brenna Davis, piano, North Kansas City High School; Megan Folken, soprano, North Kansas City High School; Ryan Link, French horn, Staley High School; Luke Lockhart, clarinet, Staley High School; Quynh Phan, piano, Clardy Elementary School; Yennhi Phan, piano, Gashland Elementary School; Jackie Summers, soprano, Winnetonka High School; and Catie Tucker, soprano, Staley High School.
The North Kansas City Schools Education Foundation annually awards the $500 scholarship to a district graduate who plans to major in music education.
