Science Matters FREE Community Event
Back by popular demand! NSTA is pleased to announce that it will again host FREE community science events this fall for elementary teachers, parents, school officials and other community members. Engage in exciting hands-on activities and discover new ways to bring science to life for your students and children. And learn about NSTA's newest initiative, Science Matters, designed to rekindle a national sense of urgency and action among schools and families about the importance of science education. Planetary Society Vice President Bill Nye, popularly known as Bill Nye the Science Guy®, will be giving the keynote address at the Science Matters Community Event in Kansas City.
What: Science Matters Community Event, hosted by KCPT & WGBH
When: Saturday, Oct. 30, 9–11 a.m.
Where: Kansas City Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B
Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. and the doors open at 8:30 a.m. The first 150 participants will receive FREE Science Matters tote bags filled with items donated by companies and organizations exhibiting at the NSTA conference. Following the event, participants are invited to browse the NSTA exhibit hall, where more than 100 companies and organizations will showcase state-of-the-art science materials and products.

VFW Teacher of the Year Award Nominations Due Nov. 1
VFW annually recognizes the nation’s top classroom elementary, middle and high school teachers who teach citizenship education topics and promote America’s history, traditions and institutions effectively. All current classroom teachers (teaching at least half of the school day in a classroom environment) in grades K-12 are eligible. Have a teacher in mind? Fill out the nomination form and submit it to your local VFW Post.
