Big News: The Sats' update!

Well it would appear that the babes of The Saturdays took over T4 to do some guest hosting to help promote their new TV show The Saturdays: What Goes On Tour. However, T4 got their hands on some exclusive unseen footage of the music video of the girls' new upcoming single Notorious which comes out later this month so we can expect to see the video in full soon.

From the clip, the girls look pretty hot, but pretty autotuned as well. And I'm still not a fan of Vanessa's new blonde highlights. Still, I'm holding on with bated breath to hear Notorious.

Big News: There's still hope for The Saturdays' Notorious yet..

Remember how a couple posts earlier, I said I didn't like anything I've seen or heard for The Saturdays' new single Notorious? Well, turns out the folks at Popjustice have gotten their hands on the full track, and have released a little snippet of the song on their site which you can head on over here to take a listen.

It's.. ONLY BLOODY AMAZING.

That was what I was hoping for, and that 12 seconds is giving me life right now. Vanessa's voice sounds strong on this pre-chorus (I think it's the pre-chorus) and it's just oh my lord. It's addictive and I LOVE IT. It's everything I need in a good pop track, one big fat banger of a chorus/pre-chorus. Which is good because Popjustice said the Amazon 30 second sample was the most boring part of the song. Which would be all the verses then.

Unfortunately, they've also said the song ends more abruptly than expected. Which probably means you're in store for another David Cook The Last Goodbye kind of track. Oh well.

But they've also mentioned that Notorious makes Higher sound old fashioned. Exactly what I wanted. But it really wasn't a tall order.

And it's apparently as good as Katy Perry's Firework. Which means you'll like it for a while, but after 5 weeks, it'll make you want to tear your ears out. But the reason that happened was because of the non-stop airplay. And where I'm from is not where The Sats' music is eaten up so I think I'll be fine.

Let's just hope the rest of the track is more this snippet, and less of that Amazon sample.

Big News: Listen to a snippet of The Saturdays' Notorious!

British babes The Saturdays have enjoyed some massive success in the UK with 8 Top 10 singles. The Sats will be making their way to Germany this May with the release of Higher, their last UK Top 10 hit but they definitely haven't forgotten the UK. The girls have a new single Notorious in the pipeline and have just released a 30 second snippet which you can take a listen below.



Unfortunately, The Sats have ditched the radio-friendly pop sound and gone for an edgier, clubbier sound which I am not a fan of. However, this is only a 30 second snippet, I'll definitely need to hear the chorus and the song in full.

Below, you can check out the single cover for Nototrious which looks tacky and cheap. This coming from a major fan of the girls. I really want to like this so the girls better bring it in the video and the full track.

In other Sats news, they have a new show called The Saturdays: What Goes On Tour that will debut on Channel 4 Sat 14 May, 10am and the girls have asked fans what songs they'd like to see the girls tape for the show in a similar fashion to how their first show The Saturdays: 24/7 was like.

Big News: The Saturdays update!

The Saturdays are not one to take long breaks in between albums, and this week, the girls have been shooting the video for their new single in L.A.. The new single, is supposedly one called Notorious, and you can see some shots from the video at Daily Mail. The Steve Mac and Ina Wroldsen-produced and written track was described by one of the girls Rochelle Wiseman as "fierce".

In another photo on Popdash, Mollie sports a belt that says Notorious so it looks like that's really the name of the new single. If you still aren't convinced, Mollie tweeted out "First drama of the day over - lost my belt (key item!!)...found it bottom of my suitcase back at hotel!! Oooops!!!".

The girls are aiming for a May/June release for Notorious.

Big News: The Saturdays ready new single

Looks like The Saturdays have got themselves a busy 2011 ahead. Being the reigning girband in the UK with Girls Aloud on a 100 year hiatus and newcomers Parade and Wonderland with shades of potential but not really delivering, their new album might be just around the corner to keep them on top. With the London date on their well-received Headlines Tour filmed for a slated The Saturdays 24/7-esque television series. But their tour during the year end could be playing to bigger crowds - with the year end tour rumoured to be an arena tour. Well I was wondering why they were playing such small stages on their Headlines Tour..

Besides that, they plan to invade Europe with the release of Higher in Germany this summer. But they definitely aren't forgetting the UK. The girls will be playing festival after festival in the summer, including major ones like V Festival, Chester Park and T in the Park.

Also, The Saturdays have apparently finished recording their upcoming single, claimed track producer Steve Mac, who wrote the track with Ina Wroldsen, both of which are no strangers to The Sats as both worked together on their chart monster Ego which is their second best selling track ever. Ina Wroldsen also has co-writes on the girls' previous singles If This Is Love, Up, Work, and Higher.

Clearly the girls aren't messing around. Just a couple weeks ago, a track called Girls Night Out was rumoured to be on the upcoming album, while Rochelle confirmed Turn Myself In, the midtempo stomper they premiered at The Headlines Tour would be included on the new album as well.

The new single will be out before July, and the girls will be headed to LA within the next week to film the music video. Also, Mollie tweeted "The countdown to Monday begins!!!!! Ohhhh yes!" Ooh.

Big News: The Saturdays do Twitter Q&A!

After recently closing their sold-out UK headlining tour The Headlines Tour, The Saturdays went to help Marie Curie with their daffodil appeal, before going into the studio to work on their upcoming album slated for release later this year. Busy bees, then. But even still, Mollie, Rochelle and Una took over The Saturdays' Twitter account to answer some fan's questions. Below, I've rounded out all the questions that matter.

@FrankieGER asked Mollie if they'd be heading to Germany to do promotion for Higher, which serves as their introductory single in Europe, with which Mollie replied with "@FrankieGER definitely! we can't wait to come over!! we"re coming this summer so look out! xx

However, when questioned about the title of the recently finished single (confirmed by Rochelle), Mollie was mum, only telling fans to "stay tuned for news".

After Mollie, it was Rochelle's turn to answer some questions and when a fan asked Rochelle on how she'd describe the new single in one word, Rochelle replied with "It's different/fierce". Mmmmm. Can't wait.

But those of you who are waiting for a JLS-The Saturdays collab, it appears that might not happen, as Rochelle finds it "really odd!", before continuing saying "So no, they make great music by themselves". Ooh.

While Una hasn't gone on their Twitter yet, when she does, I'll update this post. Looks like The Saturdays have yet another busy year ahead of them!

When asked when the band would do Live Lounge again, Una said "hope so, for the next single!"

Big News: The Saturdays announce filmed London gig!

Amidst good reviews for their sold-out UK tour, the Headlines Tour, UK's biggest girl group of the moment The Saturdays have announced that their tour date in London will be filmed! This is confirmation amidst many rumours about a filmed gig - either for a DVD or a television show/special - like how they did with their reality tv series The Saturdays 24:7.

So, you can expect to hear stuff like this in high quality. FINALLY.

Also, Mollie and Una both took to Twitter to update fans about their upcoming full-length third album which is supposedly coming out this year, with Mollie saying "Recording a MASSIVE tune!!!!! Ahh exciting!!", just a couple moments before Una tweeted "Heading into the studio to record a banging track! :)". Interesting stuff. Let's hope they get really GREAT material now.

Big News: The Saturdays go on their sold out Headlines! Tour

So. If you were wondering how the UK's premiere girlband The Saturdays are doing kicking off the start of their sold-out Headlines! Tour, I've gathered a nifty bite-sized on the reviews so far. It looks pretty much so far, so good.

Daily Mail reported that the girls "couldn't stop smiling throughout the entire set." and opened the show "in Eighties-style florescents, denim waistcoats, crop tops and hot pants" and they had "several costume changes". At one point, the girls "grabbed a bunch of different coloured helium balloons each to perform their single 'Up'."

Meanwhile, Digital Spy mentioned that the girls did a Rihanna medley consisting of Love The Way You Lie, Only Girl (In The World) and What's My Name.

Also, the girls premiered a new track live called Turn Myself In. The introduction and Vanessa's voice are heavenly and epic. But as it progresses, the average quality of the track sets in and pretty much ruins everything.

Big News: The Saturdays announce their 2011 plans via a new web series!

In a new web series, UK's premiere girl group The Saturdays have given fans an exclusive sneak peak at the fivesome preparing for their headlining tour this year appropriately titled The Headlines Tour. The dates run from early February to early March and though this new web series is pretty much a less cool version of their TV show The Saturdays 24/7 (which only had a 4 episode run), it does provide us bits of information for the group's plans this year. The cheesy and totally unprofessional introduction piece aside, it's the usual Sats 'behind the scenes flip'.

Basically, the girls talk about what they did over the Christmas break, but the juicy gossip comes from Frankie, who mentions that the girls are doing a "whole lot more writing for the next album". Also, she also mentions that the group might be heading overseas for some promotion. Hmmmm. My money's on European territories, I'm sure they're going to stick with UK domination ala Girls Aloud, with some promotion in other parts of Europe. They are doing quite well on the Scottish music charts..

Still, I could deal with one final single from Headlines!. Preferably Puppet. With a totally weird, creepy, cool music video like what Girls Aloud did for Sexy! No No No. Except not like Girls Aloud, which would bring more rubbish comparisons between the two groups.

The Saturdays - Headlines! (Album Review)

The music industry has been so slow of late that I've decided to do another review (plus, I haven't done these in a while). If you haven't heard much of The Saturdays, Headlines! is pretty much a worthwhile purchase. Before the girls head out on their sold-out The Headlines Tour next year, Headlines! acts as a bridge between their sophomore album Wordshaker and their next full-length studio album that is set to arrive next year. Nevertheless, Headlines! has three songs that previously appeared on Wordshaker, namely the #2 smash hit Forever Is Over, their second best-selling single after Up called Ego, and a remix of album standout One Shot. Those three tracks are mighty fine but what you really want to know about is the new material.

Well then, the album opens with the ballad Missing You which is in the rein of Selena Gomez & the Scene's A Year Without Rain. It's their best ballad that they've released so far but that's not saying much. Not too bad, yet not quite showstopping. Then there's their current single Higher which seems to be a clear favourite. It's slightly better than Missing You and much more fun which resonates with anyone that loves The Saturdays.

The next new track Died In Your Eyes is a cover of Kristinia DeBarge' track which appeared on her debut album Exposed in 2009. The song itself was a standout on DeBarge' album and thankfully, the girls don't do too much with the track. Producers have messed up this one though, for while it was raw and honest on DeBarge' album, it was rather autotuned on this version which detracts from how honest the track is.

Then we go back to fun with the sassy Karma and Puppet. Karma, while interesting, just doesn't make you want to go out and get it. Nevertheless, if the group should release a third single from Headlines! (which they should), it should be this. It shows attitude and quirk that's missing from previous releases that have caused critics to call the group a blander version of Girls Aloud.

Puppet is a tough one. It's moderately catchy.. And a bit nuts actually. It's a bit naughty, come to think of it. And if they do want to make the headlines and get people talking, this could be the track to do it. Album stunner, though? Not quite.

Headlines! draws you to this conclusion: the girls have so much potential to be as big as Girls Aloud, but were horribly mismanaged during the Wordshaker era, and nothing (that hasn't already been released as a single or appeared on Wordshaker) here sounds like a #1. Hmmmm. I'd still go for Karma to be the next single, but they really need an AMAZING next album. One without filler, and one with the sass of some of Girls Aloud's best work. It's a shame though, Work could've been the track, but for whatever reason, is their lowest charting single in the UK.

The Saturdays - Higher feat. Flo Rida live @ Jingle Bell Ball

Delivering their very first performance of Higher with feature artist Flo Rida was the UK's premiere girlband The Saturdays at Capital FM's Jingle Bell Ball. However, this is one of their weakest performances (just watch the one at T4's Stars of 2010. Vanessa was disappointing (heard she smokes), but you can always check out their hilarious interview below. The thing about The Saturdays is that they actually get along.

The Saturdays - AOL Sessions

Currently the biggest girl group in the UK, The Saturdays did a little AOL sessions recently and performed some never before performed live tracks. Check them all out below, including the interviews. Speaking of girl groups, Sarah Harding of Girls Aloud has plans to release a solo album next year. That'll be the third after Cheryl Cole and Nadine Coyle. Yup, bye bye Girl Alouds, hello The Saturdays. Oh, but apparently Girls Aloud are contractually obligated to release three more albums. Oh but with Cheryl's success, don't count on a new Girls Aloud album anytime soon.

The Saturdays were on BRMB recently to give Birmingham a string of performances which include Just Can't Get Enough, Missing You, Ego and Higher. The girls did a solid job as usual and you can check out Ego above with an interview backstage.

Re-Introducing: The Saturdays

The last time I listened to the Saturdays was when I reviewed their debut album Chasing Lights, which was quite a while ago. I was left a bit cold and a little unimpressed and quickly dismissed them. Then, I posted Wordshaker, their second album, but I didn't even listen to it. Little did I know that after I stopped listening to them, the girls went on to collect 8 UK Top 10 singles so far. So I decided to give them a shot again and listened to Higher. That's when I started really loving them. The past couple of days, I've been on YouTube watching their past interviews, performances, music videos and I might be a fan now. They actually do have personalities and they can actually sing live, and do a pretty good job of it as well.

So from now on, I'll be tracking their latest performances/interviews and I'll start posting them again.

Meanwhile, check out their latest live performance of Higher on T4's Stars of 2010. I think this live performance accurately captures the carefree vibe of the song while they prance around the stage, recreating bits of the music video.
