Ricky Martin...Sexy Superstar Crooner on stage live! Nokia Theatre! May 7th!

Ricky Martin - once the focus of a throng of hysterical teen-age girls - is slated to appear live! on stage at the Nokia Theatre on May 7th (Saturday) at 7:30 p.m.

Though the sexy superstar pop singer has disappeared from the searing glare of the spotlight in recent years, the Latino heartthrob still boasts a huge fan following.

In fact, in spite of  "coming out" at the height of his once-sizzling hot career, Ricky remains a big draw, and is one charismatic celebrity bon-bon shaker still capable of selling-out concert halls.

Quite a few of his adoring female fans still pine for the ultra-hot bump-and-grind sex symbol - in spite of the fact he is not "available" - because of his well-known status as an "out" gay man.

"I don't care if he's gay, he' so cute and a great stage performer," one fan gushed when the news first broke about his private life.

In that regard, he's certainly a phenomena in the music industry.

His "homosexuality" came as no surprise to moi!

For good reason!

Years ago, when I was cast to play a small role on General Hospital, I overheard Ricky whisper sweet nothings to his boyfriend on the telephone when I sauntered into the green room unexpectedly out-of-the-blue.

Did the sexy soap stud flinch when he spied me "eaves-dropping" on his steamy conversation with his lover?

Heck, no!

He cruised me subtly.

Discreetly, in fact.

By the gleam in his eye, though, I just knew he was interested in jumping right in between-the-sheets.

Uh-huh!

With his pretty face, and long flowing locks, the Latino beauty was quite the catch back then.

Maybe I should have been quicker on the uptake?

Martin appeared on Jay Leno last night and was surprisingly candid about the drama he suffered through over the issue of his sexuality.

”I was the sex symbol and I needed to dance and I needed to make girls crazy and I couldn’t say that I was gay.”

“It was a lot of struggle. If you add to that just call it culture, religion, society, what people say. What I was feeling, according to what I had in my mind was evil.”

With those struggles behind him now, Ricky will undoubtedly burst onto the stage of a packed house on the weekend, just oozing with sensuality.

With kids in tow backstage, just betcha!

Though a a bit older, and a family man now, he can still wiggle that tight butt, after all.

Well, you've eeither got it, or 'ya don't.

Ricky Martin has it in spades, alright.

See 'ya there!

Julian Ayrs...News Release! Artist returns to roots!

NEWS RELEASE

After engaging in a handful of artistic pursuits over the past decade or so – Canadian-born painter Julian Ayrs (and well-known blogger) – has returned to his roots.

“During a recent trip to San Francisco, I was inspired to take up the brush again,” he enthused in a recent interview.

Ayrs is currently working on a spanking-new series of paintings – crafted in pencil, chalk and water color – that is appropriately titled:

“Color, Spirit, and Light"

“The creations sprang up from an inner joy I experienced in recent days during a vacation to the picturesque tourist mecca. I find that San Francisco is very conducive to the creative spirit.”

Ayrs first exhibited his fine line drawings and sketches at Rochdale College in the fall of 1968 in his hometown (Toronto/Canada) @ 341 Bloor West.

A group show followed at the prestigious Galerie Allen in Gastown the following fall when he relocated to the West Coast of Canada.

The young painter's work was well-received by the local art community and noted art critics such as respected Joan Lowndes at the Vancouver Sun (Southam News).

A one-man exhibition of major pieces followed in March (1972).

In 1972 Ayrs was also commissioned to create street kiosks for the downtown core in Vancouver (B.C.).

The following year, the city also purchased a handful of original paintings to enliven the halls of public buildings and government offices.

A brief stint in New York City - and a tunnelful of images in the city's underground subway - inspired a series of graffiti paintings which were summarily unveiled at the tony Contemporary Royale Gallery (owned by high-flying financier Nelson Skalbania) in 1974.

The Vancouver Sun profiled Ayrs in a feature in the afternoon daily (reference/Holyoak).

For a brief period, Julian tried his hand at model ling. His face has graced the pages of slick ads for American Express, the Hudson Bay Company, T. Eaton Company, and Datsun.

In 1983, Ayrs jumped at the chance to pursue his literary interests once again, when he was offered a column in the Province Newspaper (Southam News).

Ayrs regular feature - "Dressing Right" (which focused on menswear and fashion) - appeared in the morning paper for a year-or-so before Ayrs up and moved to the U.S. to pursue an acting career.

Ayrs was first published by Coach House Press (IS.8/Victor Coleman/Editor) in 1968.

A short story - "Cottage Cheese" - was purchased for broadcast by CBC Radio in 1972 (Robert Chesterman/Producer).

Shortly after arriving in Los Angeles, Ayrs became a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and began landing acting jobs in Hollywood.

Julian first starred in the one-act play - The Marriage Proposal - by Anton Chekhov.

He was given the nod with an "Award of Merit" by Simpsons Drama Festival jurors early on in his budding career.

In Hollywood, the struggling actor managed to land a few bit parts on the popular TV sitcom "Murphy Brown", the comedy variety-show hit "In Living Color", and highly-rated daytime soap operas such as "General Hospital" and the "Young & the Restless".

For a period of approximately two years, Ayrs was also a Literary Agent representing screenwriters at Roy Wallack & Associates and the Camille Sorice Agency (both SAG franchised agents) respectively.

During his tenure at Wallack, Tom Hank's film production office invited Ayrs to submit story ideas for projects, with the specific aim of changing the actor's "Big" image, and the express hope that the rising star stretch his acting "muscles".

A scripted idea for an A.I.D.S. drama (conceived by Julian) was originally rejected by Hanks ("who didn't want to do an A.I.D.S. feature at the time) but later embraced for some inexplicable reason.

During the first season of Fox's reality show - "On the Lot" - which focused on fledgling filmmakers (Steven Spielberg/Executive Producer) - Ayrs was invited to pen a blog.

Ayrs' posts were often featured on the main homepage, and subsequently, he drummed a huge reader base interested in his daily musings on celebrities, show business-in-general, and what-have-you.

When the experimental night-time bill-of-fare was can celled, Ayrs moved over to Google, and started up his own blog which became known as "The Tattler".

Today, the Tattler has made Mr. Ayrs one of the world's best-known bloggers in the world (recognized at high-profile red-carpet events, in the bustling streets among the common folk, etc.)

http://www.ijulian.blogspot.com/

Daily, avid readers surf to the current highly-ranked site to peruse movie reviews, reports on celebrity figures, and catch up on his - at times controversial - social and political commentaries (with a main thrust on Pop Culture).

Ayrs intends to exhibit his new series of paintings in the near future in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York.

Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital...a threat to patients! Dr. Sassan Davoudi a Quack! Hazardous facilities! Wrong diagnosis!

A coat of paint may cover a multitude of sins!

If you're thinking about heading over to the "Emergency" Department at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital at 1300 N. Vermont Street in Hollywood, you may want to reconsider the trek if you value your health and well-being.

Patients have complained about hazardous facilities, incompetent "quacks" such as Dr. Sassan Davoudi and Dr. Joseph M. Nussbaum, bumbling Nurses who bruise patients because of sloppy handi-work and a devil-may-care attitude, and dishonest misrepresentations about the Hospital's "mission" to provide quality care.

For instance, when one ailing individual limped into the lobby of emergency complaining of severe chest pains, they were forced to cool their heels for over two 1/2 hours before any hospital personnel made any professional effort to hustle them back to an examination "cubby-hole" for an EKG or timely X-ray to determine the severity of the problem.

In contrast - hospitals in the general vicinity in Los Angeles - usually give a green light and special priority to potential heart-attack victims (for obvious reasons).

When an individual is finally admitted after long delays at the run-down facility (and an excessive amount of paperwork has been shoved in their pain-ridden faces to fill out) they are subjected to a wild hair-raising ride in a wheelchair outside - sometimes on an icy cold eve at an ungodly hour - to a make-shift X-ray examination room which has been set up slap-dab in the parking lot behind a rusty chain-link fence in a cramped trailer.

Once on the threshold, the inexperienced Nurse proceeds to precariously hoist the patient up onto a crudely-crafted ramp at the door of the rickety shelter, where they are rolled inside for a chest and/or body scan.

Until Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital erects a structure (indoors) that meets the building codes required by California's State Medical Board (and City Officials) patients will continue to be vulnerable to the potentially dangerous hazards.

Talk about negligence and a wanton disregard for patient safety!

In fact, one nurse confessed that one bleak night, he broke a toe after tripping over debris scattered on the pathway to the poorly-constructed outdoors lab.

Elsewhere on the premises, after a few vials of blood were helter-skelter drawn from another patient (which resulted in unsightly bruises on their arms), they were solemnly informed that they were suffering from diabetes.

When the charge noted there had never been any history of the ailment in their family - or even a hint of symptoms either - the inexperienced hospital worker simply shrugged and uttered under their breath in a hushed tone:

"Maybe your blood sugar is just high tonight for some reason."

At this juncture, the diagnosis was deleted from the patent's medical record, with little ado.

Say what?

It was evident to the patient, at this point, that the technician was unqualified for their post!

But, the shoddy unprofessional conduct did not end there, not by a long shot!

One patient languished in "Emergency" for ten hours or so, before the Hospital staff finally wheeled him up to a room outfitted for two.

The sorry individual was suddenly aghast to find themselves dropped on a bed and left to reckon with an obviously mentally-deranged patient who screamed out incoherently at the top of his lungs every few minutes or so.

Then, the physician on duty - Dr. Sassan Davoudi (a bizarre-looking man with bushy eyebrows and eyes that blinked every second-or-two like a spooky old owl) - stumbled in looking for all-the-world like some dishevelled bum.

To make matters worse, the physician was unable to speak fluent English, or effectively communicate to the startled patient in a calm professional manner.

On one occasion, when Davoudi opened up his yap, he barked out orders to the patient in a disturbing demeaning fashion.

"Stand up," he demanded.

When the patient attempted to carry out the demand, he lost his balance, and fell plunk-down onto the bed unmade bed.

In spite of the obvious, the doctor bellowed out more orders, with little regard for the well-being of the patient grasping for oxygen on the bed.

In the midst of attempting to walk across the hospital room - as instructed - the Doctor suddenly waved the sick patient off.

"You're okay. Get dressed. Go home," he growled at the shocked patient, before he strolled out the door never to be seen again!

Then, the situation turned from bad to worse.

For example, when a male nurse briskly waltzed in with discharge papers (and a curt demand that he exit the hospital room immediately), the disoriented patient informed the employee that he was too weak to comply with the request.

At this point, on the heels of a call to Financial Services, a rude African American woman by the name of Gabriela Duran-Lopez (with no noticeable manners or sense of professionalism) strode into the room and warned the patient that if they did not get dressed - and exit - they'd be charged $2,500.00 for an overnight stay.

"Cash," she barked at the startled patient.

Shocking behaviour - especially when you consider the "Mission" statement the Hospital Director has set forth in the patient manual bedside - at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital.

It reads as follows:

"For more than 80 years, Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center has been helping the Hollywood community and surrounding areas, serving your medical needs (!) and those of your loved ones.

Our medical center strives to distinguish itself as a leading health care provider, recognized for providing quality (!), innovative (you betcha!) care in a professional (!) and compassionate (!) manner.

What a load of bullsh**, eh?

But, the shocking conduct of staff at the Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital didn't end after the demand for cash was made.

Unable to comply with the request - the patient humbly asked that he be permitted to stay over - until friends (or family) could arrange to pick him up bright-and-early the next morning.

When Ms. Duran-Lopez noted that she would call Social Services for a quick resolution to the problem, the nastiness escalated, go figure!

Angered by what she perceived as a refusal to leave the premises willingly, a nasty butch-looking woman - by the name of Clarissa (from Social Services) - stormed into the room armed with threats.

"If you don't get dressed and leave immediately, security will escort you to the door," she growled angrily.

Calls to Supervisor - Linda Kaye - were left unreturned!

Outrageous unprofessional behaviour when you consider the Social Services blurb in the patient guide which stated as follows:

Social Services

The Social Services Department assists all patients with emotional, social, and economic problems related to their healthcare (!).

The Department's mission is to provide consultation to family members, caregivers, and significant others to ensure ongoing support vital to a patient's well being (!!!).

Special focus and attention are given to patient and families who are at high risk for problems of adjustments, safety, economic hardship, life-threatening illness, and other severe psychological stresses related to health condition.

Several reasons a patient may need Social Services include:

*Acute grieving, depression, and anxiety
*Suicidal/Homicidal ideation, gravely disabled
*No known family or support system
*Victims of abuse, physical/emotional/sexual neglect/violence by caretakers
*Family behaviour adversely affecting patient welfare and care (!!!)
*Older adults (70+) with multiple physical needs and psychological needs
*homelessness (!!!)
*Substance abuse

Bottom line?

Lies! Lies! Lies!

It's all a public relations ploy, dude.

Coincidentally, I just read a report in the San Francisco Chronicle this past week, that the early discharge of patients is becoming a major problem - enough so, in fact - that the State Medical Board may step in to rectify the growing problem.

For example, it was announced that any Hospital that releases a patient prematurely - who is later forced to return to emergency for additional care - would be levied a penalty.

I am in accord!

In fact, in view of the breaches of professional ethics at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital (formerly known as the Queen of Angels), I expect their facility will be at the top of the list!

In the final analysis, it is also evident from the aforementioned facts, that the Nurses at the Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital are negligent, unprofessional, and derelict in their duty when it comes to fulfilling their "mission".

In fact, their staff are a menace to the community.

Avoid this medical facility like the plague!

Marina Del Rey Hospital...rinky-dink medical facility run by incompetent negligent staff!

Heaven forbid a tourist or a local should be unexpectedly stricken by a sudden illness at the beach, forcing the hapless individual to dash into the Emergency Care facility at the Marina.

What a rink-dink unprofessional hole-in-the-wall place the Marina Del Rey Hospital is!

Shortly after being admitted to the hospital by rude insulting staff (with a piss-poor attitude) patients have revealed that they were set on a treadmill amidst a pile of confusing paperwork - at which point - they got lost in the woodwork as a posse of incompetent case workers and patient liaisons got caught up in a tangle of Healthcare policies threatening to shorten their lives if the actual emergency care wasn't forthcoming soon.

Indeed, when one patient lamented that he wasn't getting much-needed emergency attention, a nurse confirmed red-faced that there had been a slip-up.

The patient's name was left off the list on the Hospital in-patient registry!

Consequently, he was left to wander the halls in search of treatment while the hospital staff at the Marina Del Rey Hospital did fu** all!

In spite of the fact each Nurse at the hospital is assigned four patients - one incompetent lay-about found it difficult to keep up - in spite of the fact only three individuals were in her charge on the night I was eye-witness to her shoddy performance.

Notwithstanding the hospital's failure to promptly admit a patient (which amounted to negligence) and its subsequent shortcomings in respect to providing professional medical care in a timely fashion - it should be noted that the facility was also lacking in other respects, too.

For instance, food rarely arrived on time at the breakfast or dinner hour- and, when the trays did arrive - the orders were either cold and tasteless or short on the items marked on the menu.

Non English-speaking workers were also slow to clean the rooms daily.

But, you know what really got my gander up?

When the aforementioned issues were raised, the immigrant workers employed there just shrugged.

"Me no speak English."

In a hospital where the issue of germs, bacteria, and cleanliness are of utmost importance - it shocks the sensibilities - to encounter such a rampant disregard for a patient's right to professional medical care (especially at a facility that purports to be professional and top notch in quality).

In addition - more often than not - patients are dragged into inappropriate arguments with inexperienced staff who end up adding stress and strain in a patient's dark hour of need at the hospital due to their lack of training, overall skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience.

In fact, as patients languish in their rooms - in need of a doctor's emergency attention,  pain-killers, and what-have-you - the ignorant unprofessional workers often persist in pursuing ongoing verbal battles with the ill as they writhe in their beds in excruciating pain waiting for much-needed medical care.

Curiously, it was announced last night on the nightly news that California is imposing laws that require a patient's care - not only be timely - but also overseen by medical practioners (and not left in the hands of the insurance carrier).

Obviously, the policy is being implemented to ensure that a patient receives the expert medical care and attention they are entitled to by Law- and in a timely fashion at the medical facility - in compliance with their paid-up policy.

Amen!

Citizen's Choice...excellent health care plan! Vision, Drugs & Dental!

As the end of the year rolls around, a posse of Seniors and Disabled Citizens are now forced to thumb through stacks of literature to locate a new health care plan, after being informed by Medicare that their provider is discontinuing services.

A sign of the times, perhaps?

Securing a plan that is either on par with the one that met their needs (drugs, low co-payments, maximum coverage, etc.) during the calendar year of 2010 - or better than the one they were content with - is not an easy row to hoe!

For those who need a heads-up, I highly recommend Citizen's Choice.

For starters, there are no co-payments for Doctor's visits.

In addition, most drugs are covered one-hundred-percent; but - if one is not - the prescription may only require a small co-pay (which amounts to about $1.00 to $3.00 in most cases).

In addition to comprehensive medical coverage for procedures and hospital stays - you name it - Dental and Vision benefits (such as free x-rays, cleanings, flouride treatments, and eye exams) are also provided.

Amazing, since most plans tossed out those benefits long ago when the economy spiralled downward.

There are many perks, too.

The plan pays for up to twenty free taxi rides during the course of the year for travel to-and-from medical facilities.

For those who are disabled, or do not drive, this is truly a plus.

In the event Citizen's Choice does not meet your standards (it's an HMO), then contact Medicare for a booklet outlining the plans and benefits provided for each provider in your neighborhood.

Happy Holidays!
