Constructive comment: I've seen people on these forums get about $700 for that system.

There were several stories on that a while back. (http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=google+dns+slow+apple+downloads&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8)Don't recall the outcome.
FWIW, I'm on OpenDNS and I just installed Tiger from scratch on 2 machines and downloads were very fast.
I reverted back to my ISP's DNS servers and will report back when Apple releases another update - OpenDNS has domain hijacking issues/censorship, so I won't use it.

The games cost the companies millions to develop on each platform, and it is their intellectual property in the first place. Adding DRM to someone else's music takes a push of a button.
Which costs tens millions to operate and to license. Keep in mind that it's not any given music service which elects to use DRM, it's the recording companies that insist upon it. The reason why Fairplay is relatively lenient compared to other schemes is that it is locked down to a narrow set of compatible devices. You can copy your music to any number of iPods, for example--which goes far beyond "fair use" under the law. Win some, lose some.
I don't get your logic there at all. As I've just said, DRMd media isn't the same as software. If I didn't want a dominant Sony Walkman 20 years ago, I bought a Panasonic and my tapes still played. If I decided my Philips DVD Player was rubbish, I could buy a JVC and the DVDs still played.
You bought into an available open standard. There were competing proprietary ones as well--just none as popular as CD or DVD. There is still an available open standard (albeit often at a higher price per track). The availability of more limited music doesn't limit you one bit. You chose the limited version over the unencumbered one because it was faster, easier, and/or more customizable.
As far as I'm concerned, anything I OWN, I should have fair use rights over, even if I wish to change the make of my player. Steve Jobs makes a big deal about us OWNING our music when we buy from iTunes. If I truly own it, I should have the right to use it how I wish. Which is it?
You do own the DRMed music file. You can use it without continued payment and without time limits. Ownership of the intellectual property of others has always been nuanced. There's ownership of content (lyrics, performance, etc. can all have different owners), of distribution (including licensing for public performance), of a license to the media (on a CD belonging to you or in a digital file under your control), and of course various forms of renting and leasing. When you buy music from iTunes (or any other pay-once service), you have indefinite (timewise) usage rights and control of that license. You do not, nor can Apple legally grant you, total control over the file.
If DRM is necessary, it should be interoperable between different manufacturers. The aim of it should be to prevent illegal copying, not allow vendor lock in.
There's nothing wrong with vendor lock-in so long as an easily attainable, universal solution also exists. Since you are not obligated to buy anything from iTMS if you own an iPod, there is no justifiable harm. What I would like to see is a service permitting you to assemble custom CDs from individual tracks (instead of being forced to buy entire albums) and lower prices from iTunes. Both of these require the recording industry to embrace the Internet, rather than fight it.

BBC news just ran a story on workers of a Taiwanese factory that make the touch screens used in iPhones. It looks like the company was using a chemical in place of alcohol that evaporated more quickly and so speeded up the production of touch screens (maybe under pressure to resolve the yellow residue issue with early IP4s??). The workers have reportedly written directly to Apple now for help on the matter.

Local DNS would be the main LAN side solution.
There are also programs that can extent Bonjour services outside the local LAN, but that would be a VPN side solution on the individual clients.

I use a mini for the same purpose. As far as media goes it will look great on the Plasma. I would consider the picture quality on a 2GB 1080p resolution episode of Eg Lost to be superior to the HD feed I get from cable. A 8Gb movie file will be close to a Blueray. The Blueray will be better however the difference is slight enough that I havent used my Blueray player in well over a year.
For large MKV files you need to use Plex as VLC is hit and miss the bigger the files go (Over 8GB rarely works smoothly). It will also play Avi files, but i havent specifically checked it with MP4's. I have yet to find a video format that won't play in plex, But if you do come across one VLC is always there as a backup.
It will play files from the network or an external storage system with ease too.
On the resolution for non HTPC applications it is more than workable. I browse the web all the time looking for media, but i find that i need to zoom on the screen to be able to see the text. Of course thats because i am viewing from across the room rather than because of a patchy image. Adjusting the resolution will aid this, but i leave it on 1080i permanently rather than switching over and back from browsing to media playback.

So wait, not only is the timeline between iPhone 4 and 5 the largaest gap in the 5 iterations of the phone but it will only be minor internal hardware improvements?
All the while these new Android phones look slicker and slicker by the day with much larger screens (something I personally like)?
My iPhone 3G is on it's last legs, if the iPhone 5 is just a spec bumped 4 then count me out.

So the other day my 12" G4 PB died on me. I reckon it's the DC in board and can't be bothered fixing it so I've managed to lay my hands on a cheap 15" G4 PB.
I'm wondering if I can swap the HD over?
Will it boot up? It's only to get a few pics off it and onto my external drive before I reinstall 10.5.

I can't tell if you're joking or being serious.
I say tax all of his money except a few hundred million, because it is consistent with what we've learned.
First, we've learned that people are not dissuaded from working hard and making more money out of fear of having the extra money taxed more consequentially. That doesn't happen. People work just as hard for the next dollar, regardless if they get to keep all of it, or just a few pennies.
Second, we've learned that the wealthiest people use more resources and do more damage along the way. Taxing all of his money except a few hundred million will help bring back those resources and fix those damages.
Third, he is more able to pay taxes than other people, and we have learned that that is the standard for taxation. Assuming his wealth is $40,000,000, he is definitely more able to pay $39,500,000 than anyone else. And since he can pay, he should pay.
Fourth, we have learned that the public sector is more efficient to help those in need, and is better at discerning who is in need, than the private sector. I point that out because of your comment about the Gates' foundation donations. That money should be taxed, and the better qualified entity - the government - should discern its distribution.
Fifth - and finally - we've learned that it is the government, not the private sector, that gets us out of a recession/depression. If he were to spend his $40,000,000, it would not help the economy. If all of that were taxed except half a billion, then the government could funnel the taxed $39,500,000 to things that help the economy grow.

The 30" requires a dualLink DVI connection, not mini DisplayPort, so forget ALL the adapters you've got there.
Basically all PCs these days have a dualLink DVI port, so no adapter required, it's just plug and play.

Wait, you got Rogers to unlock your iPhone?! Is this a new policy or did u get lucky?
Yes, how did you work that out? I've been in Australia for months and I've pleaded with Rogers to unlock my phone while I'm here. They refuse to do it unless I pay $400 to end my contract and another $100 for the unlock. I've been using Rogers for over 8 years and they still won't help me out.
Never again will I use another Rogers service after this whole fiasco. They are a bunch of jerks.

Hi,
This is my first post. I was wondering if anyone knows how to set the metronome in Logic Pro to only click during part of a recording. I would like it to click while recording up to a point and then continue recording but stop clicking. I have played around with the count-in feature and the pre-roll, but have not had much success achieving what I describe above. Thanks,
-m

I had a 10% off coupon for buy.com, so I just bought it off them - I'm assuming that you already sold your iCurve anyway, cuz I would've rather bought it from you than from buy.com!
Actually it's not sold yet! I do have someone contemplating.

I have to agree with The Tuck that the many out-of-contract iPhones will need another out, if AT&T doesn't unlock their iPhones. Though expensive, it eliminates the need to jailbreak...
