About 20 student musicians – several from North Kansas City Schools – will sing and play a variety of instruments during a benefit recital at 7 p.m., Sunday, April 18. Highlands Community of Christ Church, 7615 N. Platte Purchase Dr., Kansas City, Mo., is hosting the event.
Although the recital is free, donations will be accepted for the Joy H. Brown Music Education Scholarship. This spring, the first $500 scholarship will be awarded to a North Kansas City Schools graduate who plans to major in music education. All donations are tax deductible, and checks should be made out to the North Kansas City Schools Education Foundation.
Browne served as supervisor of music for North Kansas City Schools for 15 years. Earlier this year, she passed away at 93. Friends and former colleagues have established the scholarship to honor her efforts in building the district’s high quality music program.
