Barnes & Noble Educator Days
Barnes & Noble Educator Days run through Oct. 18. Educators are invited to attend a special Educators Reception on Oct. 15 from 4-7 p.m. Beginning at 5 p.m., booksellers will review Staff Recommended Reads in preparation for the holiday and winter seasons. There will be giveaways and a raffle as well as yummy snacks from the cafe. Take advantage of a 25% discount on books and cafe gift products, and 10% off DVDs and CDs. For the finale on Oct. 18, Jim Brickman, America's romantic piano sensation, will appear live at Barnes & Noble Zona Rosa for a free performance, signing and conversation with fans. Stop by at 1 p.m. and enjoy the performance from Jim's newest CD "Beautiful World".

Boo Bash at NKC Community Center
Calling all ghouls, goblins, and ghosts! North Kansas City Community Center's Lil' & Jr. Athletes presents Boo Bash 2009 on Oct. 24 from 4-6 p.m. All activities are FREE and open to the public. Festivities are for ages 12 and under. Enjoy trick-or-treating, games, crafts, prizes, and more.

Youth Basketball in Gladstone
Gladstone Parks & Recreation and North Kansas City Schools are sponsoring a youth basketball program offering instruction in the fundamentals of basketball and organized team participation for boys and girls 1st through 8th grade. Good sportsmanship, equal play opportunities, learning and fun are the philosophies of this program.

Practices will be held starting the week of Nov. 30 at North Kansas City Schools middle schools. Games will be played on Saturdays, beginning Jan. 9, 2010. The fee is $60 and includes a uniform T-shirt. Registrations will be accepted through Nov. 6, or until leagues are full. For more information contact Gladstone Parks and Recreation at (816) 423-4091.
